When my garage door had problems recently, Garage Door Restore (GDR) tried to sell me a replacement motor and their technician who came out to inspect the door told me it was definitely the motor that was the issue.It took a second company less than 10 minutes to prove them wrong and I saved $500. I can only surmise that the technician from GDR either didn’t know what he was doing or he knew, but was trying to sell me a replacement that I didn’t need.I have no technical expertise and had I, like any ordinary customer, trusted and relied on what I thought was professional advice from GDR, had I been too busy to ask a few more questions, I would have been $500 out of pocket. As it is, I question what their $99 call out fee was for.To explain, I had my Guardian garage door installed 10 years ago. When it started acting up recently, my agent took a video for me, showing the motor running and the chain moving but the door only rising slightly.The agent contacted GDR who suggested, before they even inspected it and without knowing how old this door was, that the motor was old and probably needed replacing. I was asked to pre-approve the cost of a new motor to save a second call-out fee. I declined and told them to get their technician to call me when he had inspected the door.When their technician came out, he told me it was definitely the motor and sent me a video, but now the door was completely non-responsive - no noise of the motor, no chain movement, only the light flashing, like when it’s in the pairing mode.He said these motors usually only last about 20 years. When I said mine was only 10, he said maybe I just got a dud one. I had never had an issue with it before.To make matters worse, the motor he was proposing to install on the spot, if I said yes, was not the one they had quoted me earlier, had a shorter warranty period and he couldn’t tell me the price.Given the video he took was different to my agent’s from just a few days earlier; that motors normally last more than 10yrs (even if their warranties don’t); and that GDR had seemed too ready to sell me a new motor, something didn’t feel right.I got another company to come out the next business day to give me a second opinion. In less than 30 seconds, their technician found that someone had put the door into the safety beam mode. They had the door operational in a matter of minutes, inspected inside the motor casing and confirmed the motor condition was fine. Their service cost me $162 instead of the $645 motor that GDR was going to sell me.I feel foolish that I didn’t know what was wrong with the door but I’m a lay person. I don’t know who put it into the safety beam mode, but I would have expected any garage door technician worth their salt, charging to service them, would have worked out if it was simply in the wrong mode.Ordinary everyday people like me have little choice but to rely in good faith on experts in trades to have the experience to provide honest and professional advice about what can be fixed and what needs replacing. We are vulnerable to poor or even dishonest advice from unscrupulous operators in such matters.Based on this experience, it’s hard not to feel taken advantage of by GDR.*POST EDIT* - To their credit, after posting this review, I was contacted by GDR promptly and personally to explain what may have led to this unfortunate experience. I have been assured that it was an isolated incident and an honest oversight, and that steps will be taken to prevent it from reoccurring. They also dealt with the fees fairly in the circumstances. Their dealing with customer complaints has been prompt, professional and fair in this instance.

Efficient, Fast, Knowledgeable and Friendly! What more could we ask for?Our garage door motor was on its last legs. I phoned Garage Door Restore and they had a technician (Rasi) out to take a look within an hour of our phone call. Rasi worked out the problem and gave us a couple of options. We decided to replace the entire motor with a brand new one. Rasi popped back to the shop to grab the part and was back with the new motor installed within and hour. From first phone call to new motor installed within 2 hours - we were blown away by the service all for a lot cheaper than we had expected! I got few quote. 1 was little bit cheaper (100 dollars) than garage door restore. However that company seller promised too much (better motor, better warranty and can install quickly) .i knew it was lot of false promise, the service was more than 220 dollars a year to keep warranty.I decided to chose garage door restore.I called them. Alan answered my questions, was really honest for the process, for the price. He didn't lie when i asked How long to be install. He took is time to explain and do the quote.Alan described the process and answered all of my questions with quality answers and professionalism.Even i paid the bill, Alan keep answering my phone call.They install the door quickly than expected. One panel was slightly scratched from the manufactured. They could choose to paint it. It was few mm.They immediately decided to change the panel. I waited 3 weeks and they replaced it.When they say something they doing it. And this in my opinion, it's the best service you can have.The service each year is cheaper than other company.I really recommend to deal with Alan. The whole process was easy. Thank you for that

Having my old clunky garage door motors replaced with Jaytech motors is the best investment I have ever done. They are silky smooth and whisper quiet. The service from all the staff was fantastic and Rasi who did the install was friendly, professional and very efficient. I am extremely happy with the cost, product and service, needless to say my neighbours don't have to listen to the old clunky racket that the doors used to make.

I called requesting for a quote on a garage door motor. Amanda was so pleasant to talk to and gracious in answering my many questions. When I called a second time to book in, the next availability was the next day but when she heard that we were manually lifting the double door garage and I had my children hold it while I drive the car out, Amanda was willing to recheck with her colleague and arranged for him to attend that same afternoon. Nick was just as pleasant, provided excellent service and at the end when I thanked him for coming at such short notice, I found out he came all the way from the North! He then mentioned that in order to make his trip worth it, Amanda arranged for him to visit a few more homes in this southern area.I'm impressed by how accommodating they all are. He arranged it to be fixed within 24 hours. His staff are Excellent. They text to let you know exactly what time they are arriving, and know precisely what to do to solve the problem.
