The Big Rig

Self guided tour is informative for adults. Lack activities for children to spark their interests.

The Big Rig is a great place to visit with a wealth of information about the beginning of the oil and gas industry in Roma. The tower and tree walk is excellent with great views of the town from above as well as the Bungil Creek. 194 steps take you to the top of the tower and even if you do the stairs make sure to have a ride in the lift to watch the hologram story. It’s well worth the ride. The staff in the information centre are very helpful and we also had lunch at the cafe which was very yummy.

Stopped here to have a look after having spent the night here in town. Interesting spot to have a look at. Have a brief look around the structure. There was a cafe on sight which I didn't buy nothing from and the visitors centre was still closed. But a worthwhile stop to have a look at.

Got some great little gifts in the gift shop. We got a shirt and they kindly agreed to post another once the order came in... Thank you!!Not a bad little show. Get the 5.30pm night show rather than the 6.30pm if you are doing day and night. It's not very clear that the place closes at 5.30 & then you have to come back at 6.30 for the night show. We were advised that last entry is 5 so turned up at 5 and were told we had to be done by 5.30, then come back at 6.20 for the night show...The night show lasted for more than an hour (because of questions mainly) the presenter was knowledgeable and spoke well. The first part was held on the floor of the rig, which was great to create atmosphere. It would be good to have the posters/historical pictures on a screen for everyone to view at the same time rather than the presenter walking around holding them up for everyone to look at.The second part was an outdoor 4D theatre which was quite entertaining.You get a shot of Port which really is fkng good Port" as per its name.Was a good show and if you're in Roma you should definitely check it out."

Very interesting and informative loved reading everything and the I climbed the tower, omgosh so high but it was great and a fantastic view.

Very interesting history of Roma and the surrounding areas. Views from atop the tower are sensational. Movie is well worth watching to gauge the hardships of the pioneers who settled this area. Very helpful tour guide and staff at the centre.

My second visit to the BIG RIG ... a little disappointed the lift on the rig wasn't working, I imagine the view would have been spectacular. Some great history to be taken in, worth a look.

Excellent self guided tour. Climb the tower and bridge walk. 140 steps or take the lift. Very interesting.

BEHIND The Big Rig!Please note, it was closed the day we visited. (Public holiday)There is a hidden gem!Beautiful little spot to pull up! Plenty of shade, lots of parks. A covered kids park, with toddler area and swings. Clean and decent toilet block. Shaded picnic tables all around. Your right next to a beautiful little creek and looks like a little train ride. Highly recommended pulling off here!

A must see look at the history of gas exploration in Queensland. I suggest you make contact prior so as to be there for the presented shows.
