New Shakthi Takeaway and Restaurant

Chicken curry + rice + 3 veg wasn't bad for $12.50. Quite a big portion, it made 3 meals for me (your mileage may vary). Pic isn't the most appetizing as it had been in the fridge overnight but you can see it's got a decent curry/rice ratio. Curries were tasty. Also tried the meat roti, lamb roll, veg samosa - all OK. They have a good variety of snacks, will go back to try the rest. Huge queues at lunch on the weekend. Yes, surcharge for card and they do prefer cash.

Visited the takeaway section of this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. It's a rather ordinary place. The display of food was very inviting and I went on a buying spree. Brought the food home and I was very disappointed. The stuffed banana chilly looked tempting. My grandmother used to prepare this and I liked it. How disappointed I was to see that it was nothing but a small green chilly with loads of batter (see photo posted). The Paratha was leathery. The small size fish curry had just one small piece of fish. Will not visit again.

My family has been getting food from here dating back to the early 90s. My dad and I love to pop by for some takeaway when we're in the area. The lamb rolls are our favourite.

On the recommendation of @recipetineats we visited New Shakti for dinner and it didn’t disappoint. Amazing flavours and variety on offer. Personally recommend the goat curry and Dahl. The portion sizes are quite large as can be seen in the photos. Great service from the team.

Big servings, spicy and authentic.

This is a very popular place for Sri Lankan takeaway. We arrived 6pm and there was a queue of about 12 people!!There are tables on footpath you can eat at but we went inside to the restaurant they also operate. You pay a few dollars more per dish, but the place was empty the whole time we were there. Service was very friendly and minimal wait time as its already made and in the window.We ordered dosai which is a thin pancake in South Indian cuisine made from a fermented batter of ground black lentils and riceGoat curry and Biriyani with butter chicken. The absolute stand out was Goat curry which i was trying for the first time. It was so tasty! The butter chicken wasn't bad, but the Biriyani was not like what I think of when I say Biriyani, which is more clove flavoured. I am no expert so I wont comment just assume there is a lot of difference between Indian Biriyani and Sri Lankan.I would return...to get best value, I would get take away and sit on street. I would avoid arrival at peak time of 6pm maybe 7.30pm - as when we left, there was no line. I would get goat curry again.Parking was easy on the street with lots of spots and minimal competition.UpdateCame back and got 1* Lamb and 3 * Vegetable for $15. I chose ochra, paneer and lamb. It was great flavour and was good value, which is hard to find these days. Paneer is more expensive than others so was Only allowed 2 other vegetable curries but was still flavourful and filling.One suggestion would be to have labels on curries as it is just a plethora of curries with no way to distinguish them apart.

BOUGHT SOME SHORT EATS TODAY.. THEY SAID ITS CHICKEN AND FISH THERE WAS NOTHING INSIDE.... this is the second time happening I can see these hugs are doing it deliberately.. strongly not recommended.. gonna report to fair trading

New shakthi is the best Indian/sri lankan cuisine based restaurant in Sydney, period. The set up reminds me of restaurants back home in india. The service is quick as hell, loads of varieties to choose from and road side eating set up.If you are very hungry just order the biryani and you should be good, its so filling and is served with an egg, goat curry and piece of chicken leg and curd salad.The prices are super cheap as well and big up for the staff they are so friendly and lively.Must visit!

I ordered 5 veg rice & curry and it was only $12.5! The quantity is very generous, it made two people’s lunch. The egg plant curry was very tasty. There are also many South Indian snacks like wade, rolls etc all at low price. Also they sell fresh parathas etc.If you are hungry and love Indian food, this is the place to go:) Though the queue can be long especially weekends, it’s worth the wait.
