A long drive to reach the location but well worth it. The views are awesome, only beaten by swimming in the river below. I know I will have to return.

The road to McKillops bridge is accessible with 2W vehicle. Road is bit narrow but 2 vehicles can pass each-other. Recommend to bring a walkie talkie as cell phone reception is not good.

Magnificent bridge, awesome view, interesting beetles that looked like spiderman(anyone know it's name?). But the single lane winding gravel road was spine chilling.

Visiting McKillops Bridge is part and parcel of driving the 300km Snowy River McKillops Loop. With a few stops, our counter clockwise trip took 9 hours from Marlo. The drive is presented as a Self Guided Touring Route, suitable for 2WD and over about 70km of gravel road, which is mostly in reasonable condition. Travel times reflect the narrow, winding roads.Important points that may help:The Orbost Information Centre has excellent self drive handouts that provide descriptions, distances from Orbost, directions and photos; very handy.Mobile phone service is variable. It worked well for us around Tubbut given a sudden influx of messages and a phone call. There is no fuel available from Orbost to Buchen, nor shops for food and drink. There are plenty of rest areas, some basic, and which have fire rings and hot plates. Most have adequate wood laying about. An old tablecloth for a picnic table would be useful.CB Radio UHF 40 is recommended, especially if log trucks are operating or you need to coordinate passing another vehicle.Just past Tubbut, and its Honey Stand, is the old Ambyne Suspension Bridge. Take the right hand turnoff just west of the town for better access to the bridge and the Deddick River. The gravel road west of McKillops Bridge makes for an 'interesting' drive - take care. Driver focus, a steady driving technique and deliberate noting of potential passing points is strongly recommended. The side trip to Little River Gorge is a must; thoroughly recommended. The back road from Buchan to Orbost is an anti climax. The steering wheel gets quite a workout!Overall, we were pleased to have made the trip; it is memorable. Some side trips were missed, forfeited given time. We ended the day with another great dinner at the Marlo Hotel.

Awesome drive to get here. Well worth the drive for scenery and the history of this iconic bridge.

Just the most stunning place to start your paddling journey down The Snowy. Here is an extract from my Facebook post.Over the years, I’ve watched many of my students and dear friends head off to raft The Snowy River. Last weekend, I finally took that leap myself after years of giving up being a somewhat average rafting guide.7 kayakers and 4 of us in a raft (average age of 60 in the raft - oh the retro helmets and gear!) headed off on Saturday morning with conditions that would challenge the hardiest outdoors person. As we entered the gorge, the expected ‘severe weather’ conditions set the scene for an unforgettable trip. Lightning, thunder and torrential rain made a somewhat make-believe scene as we paddled the stretches between ominous rapids. At times the rain was so heavy, kayakers were enveloped into its curtain like they’d been beamed up by the USS Enterprise. The Snowy brought along its full suite of delights - platypus, swans, ducks, fish, eagles, goannas, water dragons, a lot of ants and spiders as well as swooping plovers. Add in spectacular cliffs, gorges, boulders the size of caravans and blooming flora sprinkling its colours along the river edge.My fellow rafters, Vik and Andy sang Latvian ballads that had our paddles stroking in time with, as the melodious sounds echoed downstream to our sometimes spread out group.Mother Nature delivered her full repertoire of ‘wonder’ and we humbly took each moment with joy, awe and gratefulness. Our collective outdoor skills and positive approach made for a seamless trip that had for interesting tarpology creations, endless paddling tales and lots of laughter.Thank you to Paul for the invitation and encouragement to join the group. Couldn’t have done it without you. Looking forward to the next adventure. PS - iPhone 7+ held up in the wet conditions but wasn't game to take it out near the big rapids.

I was put off coming here from reading about the single lane, unsealed road, but my old Mazda 3 had no issues going the whole way from Buchan to the bridge and then to Orbost. There was one occasion where I had to reverse up a stretch of road to allow another car to pass, but there are fairly regular areas created for passing. The bridge was amazing and well worth the drive. The views were exceptional, and we enjoyed reading all the information signs in the shaded area near the car park. Lovely to learn so much history of the bridge and the area, as well as about the wildlife and walks.During the drive, we were lucky to see a rock wallaby, several swamp wallabies, and even a blue tongue lizard who was crossing the road. The trip to the bridge and back was the highlight of our stay in Buchan - absolutely amazing.

This is perhaps one of my most favourite places in Victoria! In my opinion, snowy river the most beautiful national park in Victoria. The drive to and from this particular spot in the national park may be a little dangerous, especially the narrow winding dirt/gravel road with a very steep descent on one side and eventual falling rocks on the other, but if you can muster the courage to make the drive, you surely will be rewarded with the most stunning and magnificent view. On the note of the drive though, we made the drive there even with a sedan, so it doesn't require a 4WD SUV.

Amazing drive and destination. An experience to get there, the road is, in places, tight, steep and with few passing places. 4WD is recommended but do-able in a 2wd as long as the weather is good and the washouts no worse than out recent trip. The sign says unsuitable for caravans
