Wonderful Mediterranean lunch at Rubens with great service from friendly staff, will definitely head back when we are next in town. The risotto and gnocchi we had were fantastic but the highlight was of course the zeppole (Italian donuts) which are a delight.

Rubens is a cozy Italian restaurant located in the heart of Hepburn, Daylesford. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is friendly and attentive.The gnocchi was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The salmon steak was cooked to perfection, and the pumpkin arancini were light and airy. Service size is great for the price. I highly recommend trying gnocchi if you have the opportunity to dine at Rubens. You won't be disappointed!

This restaurant came as a recommendation from a friend. The service was great, but the food was disappointing.Ordered the bruschetta and garlic bread for entree, which was enjoyable. Toasted bread topped with fresh ingredients for a balanced bite. Also ordered the chicken parma and pumpkin risotto for mains. The parma was quite average, lacking flavour and seasoning. The risotto was lacking in many aspects unfortunately. It smelt and tasted like Indian curry; just the combination of spices were quite odd and took away from the pumpkin, which was meant to be the star of the show. The texture was very gluggy - could have done with a bit more hot stock to finish. The diced onion in the risotto was also (very) roughly chopped and lacking consistency; with pieces cut and ranging from ~1cm squares all the way to ~6cm long.

We discovered this “pearl” of the mountain by accident. The beautiful food kept us coming back for more. This restaurant where we spent two wonderful nights gave us a very big surprise. Delicious food and super friendly service.The packed food we ordered here is still very good to sustain us through an early morning without breakfast. We will consider returning to this place because of this restaurant, and are looking forward to meeting the staff again in the near future!

Very very good food, I got the bruschetta which is not your regular tomato one but still really tasty and delicious and didn’t disappoint.. I also got the artichoke pizza which I definitely took home to eat the rest later! My mum got the Dijon chicken which I had a mouthful and despite not being my thing it was yummy and not dry which chicken breast can often be! She also had the affogato which was good, one scoop of ice cream which she thought wasn’t good enough though is pretty standard. Also had the limoncello cocktail that was so nice and refreshing. All in all I would recommend and would go back. Lovely setting inside too (and outside). Service was very good too. I would say not the ultimate Italian I’ve had but I was still very very happy.

We decided to order take away on this occasion. The food was ready when promised and the quality was exceptional. Entered the restaurant to collect the food and it had a welcoming, family warm atmosphere. Staff were very friendly. When placing the order on the phone, the staff member who took my order was very helpful.Will definitely return next time I am in the area (and will make the effort dine in). Pizza were very tasty and the Spaghetti Marinara was exquisite.

Lovely spot in Hepburn with a lovely outdoor area which was perfect for our evening. Cocktails are very well priced and we’re delicious. Trio of Dips was a great starter and the mains were beautiful. Highly recommend the gnocchi. The only reason it doesn’t get a 5 star is because we requested the meat rare but it was medium well and no steak knife was provided. Besides that great place to have dinner!

What can I say. Everything about this place is amazing. The ambience and the food was so yum!! The service was wonderful too. We had our anniversary dinner here and they brought our desserts out with candles. It was such a lovely touch. Thank you so much to the young man who served us, he was friendly and attended to us amazingly. Thanks again for a great night.
