Masterpiece Dressmaker

I took a Shona Joy dress in to get taken up as it was too long. I thought what they charged me was a bit steep but wanted to support a local business so I took a chance. When I got my dress back, I went home and tried it on only to notice the back was longer than the front. I went back to the store to talk to the tailor who said that that was the way the dress was designed and that if I wanted it level I would have to pay more. I can confirm as per the website that the dress is meant to be a universal length the whole way around, not shorter at the front and longer at the back. I'm sad to say I will not be returning here.

I've taken several pieces to Julia and her mum for small alterations and complete redesigns of dress shapes. Each time I've gotten the result I wanted. They treat me like I'm their number one customer even for simple hemming jobs. Craftsmanship like theirs is hard to find.

Took a bridesmaids dress in to have the straps and hem shortened. I was assured I was leaving it with plenty of time before the wedding (and charged a steep fee).I was told when I dropped it off it would be ready sometime the following week. Wednesday that week arrived and I had heard nothing. I called for two days to no answer. I physically had to go in to the shop to chase them up, to find out they had been away. Why they wouldn’t mention that or leave some kind of answering message I’m not sure. They told me the dress would be ready tomorrow.The next day I went in to collect, the owner wasn’t there, and my dress was still 4 cm too long. The wedding is in a week at this point. I had to try to explain what I needed fixed over speakerphone to the owner. I had to barter to get the dress fixed that day. Overall a super stressful experience, with no apologies offered. Charging the amount they do, I was very disappointed with the service.

I wish I found this place years ago! I was in a really sticky situation and needed a lot of help and guidance on a bridesmaid dress. Julia and her mum were very patient, kind and honest about what could be done. Absolutely love their work. I see reviews mentioning price but you’re coming to the best of the best so you get what you pay for.

Julia and her mum are great! They are expensive, but always do an excellent job, and always get the job done quickly despite me constantly leaving things to the last minute

Fantastically helpful and kind staff. Went above and beyond to help me get a vintage coat ready for a wedding. Also very helpful in tailoring my brother’s clothing to be more accessible for him to wear with his disability, which we have had difficulty finding someone to do in the past.

I took a pair of expensive, new pants in to be hemmed, and the owner convinced me to take them in too. I wasn't sure because I was worried they'd be too small. It was over $100 to do, and now they don't fit. So I've lost a pair of really nice pants that I got to wear once.

Would not recommend to anyone! The owner was very unprofessional and unhelpful. I went there on Saturday to shorten a dress and was quoted $80, which I though it was a lot but given I did not actually know how much work could possibly be involved in the job, I accepted and left with my receipt. I was told the dress would be ready mid-next week. I waited the whole week and did not hear anything from the store. Finally, the following week I received a call from the owner, who asked me to come back to the store to check again the desired length of the dress. I explained that it is a bit of an inconvenience for me to come back to the store and asked her to just cut it as previously agreed in the store on the day when the measurements were taken. Given she insisted I had to come back, I did so the following day. Little did I know the reason she wanted me to come down was to charge me more money! She claimed I was misquoted by her sister who doesn't work at the store and she said the job would cost $120-$150, which I though was very unfair given the customer should be charged what was agreed in writing. I told her, if the mistake was made, it should not be absorbed by the customer but as a gesture of a good will, I offered to pay extra $20. She kept saying it wasn't her fault because she was not in the store when I first came in. Not sure how this could possibly be not her fault given she was the one who left in charge of the store a person who apparently did not have knowledge of the pricing! Anyhow, after wasting more of my time , she refused to do the job and asked me to go somewhere else! Luckily I did, because just a few meters down the road, a lovely lady did a beautiful job for $45 and the dress was ready in 3 days!

Julia and her mom are absolutely the best. They're so warm and accommodating and really skilled at what they do. I've brought in blazers, coats and dresses in varying styles and fabrics and they've always done an A+ job altering or repairing my clothes. I wouldn't trust any other tailor!
