All Kids Can Education

Our son was part way through Prep when I observed that he would read the last letter of a word first and consistently confuse some letters for others. When reading, he would get anxious and get frustrated very easily. I could see he was guessing words when reading, based on the pictures or the context. I raised this with his teachers on numerous occasions, but they assured me he was doing well, even better than some of his classmates. I tried my best getting him to practice his sight words, plastering them all around the house and making games out of them. I could see that he was trying to memorise them all, but his head was full to the bream. Although he was remembering a lot of words, his reading was slow and stunted. I knew something was wrong, but I just couldn’t seem to fix it, despite trying all that I had learnt at school, university and in my employment. Although his reading picked up somewhat in Year 1, I still saw similar errors and his frustration with reading was growing. He was starting to become really anxious, distressed and would hit himself when reading. I feared that if this wasn’t addressed, it would damage his confidence and set him on an undesirable path. His school teacher still reassured me he was doing fine - nothing to worry about.I reached out to Kristy at All Kids Can Education. She assessed our son as being in the 12th percentile for reading and below the normal range for a Year One student - with indicators for dyslexia. I was gutted and I blamed myself for not being able to help him. I felt as though I had failed as a parent. We started tuition once a week. I would say within two sessions our son’s confidence picked up. After four sessions, I noticed less of the same errors in his reading. Our son is now nearing the end of third term in Year 1. We found him sitting up in his bed recently, reading a Minecraft novel aloud, all by himself. This book is well beyond what his age group is expected to be reading. The progress that we have seen is unbelievable. I have no doubt in my mind that the MSL / OG approaches are responsible. I cannot recommend All Kids Can Education and the MSL / OG approach highly enough. Leonie in Highett has been tutoring my son in literacy for the past several years. Leonie is incredibly accommodating and has always met my son where he is at. My son was learning phonics when he met Leonie and he has now become a confident reader and is now navigating narrative stories. This is all due to the way Leonie is able to make literacy learning fun and engaging.

My son has been tutored by Kristy at All Kids Can now for 3 months. We had a wonderful tutor previously but they didn’t specialise in teaching dyslexic kids. I have already seen huge improvements in his ability to decoded words and memorise irregular words. All Kids Can have a total understanding of working with kids that have learning difficulties like dyslexia. His improvements are now having a noticeable benefit in things like social and sporting group activities also.I can't recommend highly enough the benefits of working with Kristy and her team at All Kids Can.

All Kids Can have been helping my 7yo learn to read and write for about a year in total (we had a break in between). His school did a Mapgrowth report for him which tracks his progress. He repeated Prep and at first term year 1 there was no growth in reading from his first year in Prep. That's more than 2yrs of school. Within 2 terms of Kristy and her team's interventions his reading and writing has improved significantly. His 3rd term Mapgrowth showed drastic improvement. He still has a way to go but he never complains about going even when he's tired. They make it a fun, supportive experience for him. I can't recommend them enough!

Both my girls have been going to AKC for 18 months. We have dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia and a little of ASD and ADHD in there to mix it up. They struggle with learning. I started with Kristy to give them confidence in the classroom and boost their self esteem and sense of achievement. AKC have supported my girls and me in achieving this. They have become integral and special people in my daughters lives to make their learning journey easier and school experience more enjoyable. I cannot recommend AKC enough. I am so thankful I found Kristy and her team.

The staff are very passionate about the individual needs of the child and develop thorough and comprehensive assessments to understand the key focus areas for improvement. They have been very kind and patient when my daughter was having a bad day or struggled to focus and adaptable when it comes to teaching and learning styles to ensure my daughter understands and learns. My daughter's spelling and reading has improved so much over just 2 terms. Huge thanks to the team!

Kristy and Leonie at All Kids Can Education are amazing literacy specialists and have incredible patience when it comes to engaging and teaching kids with high needs and attention deficits.
