I have just done this road with a 4WD, May 2023. I counted 6 creek crossings plus the Pothole of Doom. I actually met a road work crew on the way who were fixing the upper part of the road. When I told them about the worse potholes near the village, they said they could not fix those, because that part of the road belongs to a different shire council (Goulburn), while they were from Lithgow. Weird bureaucrazy, I am not sure why another council need to send down different work crew for the lower part of the road. As it is, I would NOT go down there in a 2WD, and definitely not with a trailer or caravan. Expect to travel ~ 30kms/hr.

The 60kms to Yerrandarie took us approx 2 hours. Parts of the road are wide and well graded (time of travel was mid March 2023) but at other times heavily potholed. Some steep sections with low range engaged. 4 creek crossings had water but not deep. One muddy bog hole but had a solid base. The last 15kms or so into Yerrandarie were probably our slowest - quite a number of blind corners one after another which made the trip slow. Whilst we did see a couple of camper trailers at Yerrandarie, I would not like to have to back up on numerous parts of this track as there are limited / no spots for manoureving at times (again, particularly as you get closer to Yerrandarie). Overall, an enjoyable drive (in the dry).

Attempted this in a Golf as sign notes 2WD ok in dry weather. Got halfway before the potholes were too much, even though it was dry. This route is best left to 4WD.

Truly an adventurous route through the Southern Blue Mountains. Make sure you pay attention as you may spot local wombats, kangaroos, wallabies, and if you're lucky enough possibly an echidna. Up high you will notice beautiful flocks of rainbow lorikeets and famous cockatoos from spring to summer. Beware, as there is no fuel, water or food nearby so ensure you are well prepared.
