F.Stop Workshop

James and Patrick were very popular with our students. They immediately established rapport with our students who looked forward to their weekly visits. The students loved learning new facts about photography as well as having the opportunity to use quality equipment and take their own photos -with specific purposes in mind. A wonderful experience for all involved!!

F.Stop Workshop delivered an excellent photography program with our students this term which ran for six weeks. James and Patrick were incredibly organised and flexible in adjusting the workshops to cater for the weather and our school's context. Our class thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history of photography and exploring how to capture images via light drawings, cyanotypes and digital cameras.James and Patrick had a calming presence in our classroom and quickly established strong rapport with our students. They shared their knowledge and love of photography in an informative and relaxing manner that engaged all students.During the program, students developed skills for positive wellbeing, such as focus, creativity, patience, reflection and mindfulness. Our final lesson of creating zines from photographs students had taken on digital cameras was a wonderful way to finish the program. Students thoroughly enjoyed looking through the printed copies of their photos and sharing them with one another to create treasured photo albums.James and Patrick also kindly allowed us digital access to photos they had taken throughout the program. These photos are very professional and capture the individual personalities of our students.We feel incredibly fortunate to have had this program delivered to our Year 5 class this year, thanks to the Children and Young People Wellbeing Recovery Initiative, and would love to have James and Patrick back at our school for workshops in the future.

James and Patrick delivered a program to our K-6 students last term. From the moment the students met James and Patrick, a strong rapport was built, mostly due to the very calm and approachable nature these two instructors/ teachers possess.The students were engaged from the word 'go' when they stepped into their own camera. The program had so much for everyone with a perfect mix of the history of photography, the first ever photograph, hands on activities with cyanotypes and using old style cameras, culminating in using the modern camera (yes, they held very expensive cameras and got to use them) with fun activities and problems to solve.Our students thoroughly enjoyed the whole program, but they particularly enjoyed the 'long exposure' lessons with coloured lights and a blackened room, where they could write their name or draw pictures or shapes. This was done on a rainy day when we couldn't go outside and James and Patrick were always flexible when situations out of their control arose.The students' final lesson of creating their own photo album from the previous weeks' photographs they had taken was such a lovely way for the program to end- they chattered away happily about their time with James and Patrick whilst cutting, making, gluing and designing their very own photo album to take home.James and Patrick were extremely professional and they had everything organised well in advance. They knew what level to aim their lessons at (which is pretty amazing when you have four stages to cover) so that all students took something away. Which they did!This was a great program and I highly recommend James and Patrick's professionalism, knowledge and easy going, relaxed nature. Even after the program ended, they were still in contact with our school to see that all loose ends had been tied up and if the students needed anything.James and Patrick really made the effort to engage our students and get them interested in photography and they did just that and more.Thanks James and Patrick- we would have you back in a heartbeat!

The guys at f.stop workshop are incredible with the work they do. They are very welcoming, they leave you more then satisfied with the work they do for you, are all for supporting local businesses and are very efficient. I highly recommend both James and Patrick with any photography requests/projects you may have.

I recently joined the introduction to studio lighting workshop and absolutely loved it. It was the perfect balance between theory and practical examples, with lots of opportunity to ask clarifying questions and to dive in deeper into more technical areas.James and Patrick were so eager to share their knowledge in a relaxed and welcoming way, a fantastic environment for learning.I'd highly recommend anyone interested in photography to check this place out.
