We were served a whole tray of sashimi that was a week old.We drove an hour and half to come here and have sushi by the beach. Really could have stopped at any beach and any restaurant but saw the reviews here were good.Soft shell crab and chicken katsu rolls were decent. Sashimi (5 piece) were off. Atleast a few days old. It was so disappointing and infuriating that the chef knew it was off, served us and charged us! ($53 total for 2 rolls and 5 sashimi)You can see the discolour in the photo. Just FYI for anyone else who will go to a restaurant for being “highly rated” on google

On our way back to Sydney from doing a climb, we decided to try out this place on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of my nigiri set - very fresh tasting fish and well done aburi. A great stop for some quality sushi in between Sydney and the gong.

Enjoyed lunch here. Had the kingfish carpaccio, tempura prawn roll and okonomiyaki. Food was fresh, delicious and authentic.

If you love Sushi then this is the place to eat. Also has another location in Wollongong. This is a quiet little restaurant with a nice modern decor with a hint of Japan and a nice touch with the Koi art on the wall.Food is five stars. I had take away Salmon Chef's Roll first time I visited. I then came back a second time with my Daughter who ordered the chicken.Pricing was good for quality and size. Hands down wins over any shopping centre sushi ! I'd have to say it's also better than Sushi Bay which is now number 2 on my list. Toro in Thirroul and their other Store in Wollongong will always be my first choice in the Illawarra.Well done guys very professional. If you get a chance drop in you won't be disappointed.

Miso soup is a steamy intro to your bento lunch box. I had the sushi and vegetable tempura. Tasty, salty edamame beans in a light soy are an easy entree. The tempura veggies were crispy and lightly cooked. Sushi rice was a bit dry and the fish sliced too thin, it was tearing apart on the rice. Otherwise it’s a good treat.

I have been coming to Toro Sushiya in Thirroul for many years and they never disappoint. The great quality of the food, friendly service and warm atmosphere are what kept me coming to the restaurant. Their sashimi and tempura bento box is amazing and so is their wagyu short ribs which is flavourful and spot on. Toro Sushiya is definitely worth a visit.

Toro Sushiya is an excellent local Japanese restaurant that offers some of the best sushi and other Japanese dishes in town. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff that provides great service. The menu features an impressive selection of sushi and sashimi options, all of which are expertly crafted with the freshest ingredients. The tempura prawn crunch roll, in particular, is a standout dish that is melt-in-your-mouth delicious.Beyond the sushi, there are also a variety of hot dishes like the udon soup and tempura vegetables that are equally delicious. The miso soup and seaweed salad are also must-tries.Overall, Toro Sushiya is a top-notch Japanese restaurant that is definitely worth a visit. The quality of the food, great service, and friendly atmosphere make it a fantastic spot for a special dinner or a night out with friends.

Yes this place is BYO!!! That makes me almost as happy as the food did. The fish and flavours were fresh and delicate, and not over filling. Get the family size platter like we did, lots of yummy selections between 2 people (not enough for a whole family though - at least for the size of my stomach). Very much appreciate a yummy Japanese tastes experience- we’ll be back soon! ❤️

Was so impressed with the pork Udon. By no standards is authentic Japanese but it doesn't mean it wasn't delicious and one of the best suburban udons we've ever had! The soy, sesame oil and Dashi stock was so moorish and comforting and skewer very tasty. Sushi rolls were also great and generous in serving. Loved the vegan roll especially- one of the best combos- so fresh and tasty. Would defn come back if we re in Thirroul again.
