William Hovell Dam

Lake William Hovell takes its name from Australian explorer William Hovell, who trekked through the region in 1824.Construction of the reservoir was completed in 1973.The ‘flip bucket' spillway is a special feature of the storage. When the storage has filled and during floods, overflow water is directed into the King River as a spectacular spray. The flip bucket" spillway chute terminates part of the way down the slope of the storage embankment and the water leaps from it into the river. Quiet and serene place to have a bbq. Boat ramp is very near to the bbq area. Would have loved it more if it was sunny when I visited.

Beautiful lake. The drive to get there is also a joy.

Great place to have a break and picnic lunch. Very peaceful without jet skis and speed boats.

What a great spot. The dam was overflowing when I was there and because of the recent rains, everything was lush and green. Can't wait to go back with my kayak and fishing rod.

Awesome scenery, the lake needs to be restocked with fish of all sorts, so when fishing with friends and family there is something to catch.

Lovely views in any weather.Great landmarks nearby and a great drive there. It also funtions as a hydropower dam so im not sure if your able to swim in it. But its a great trip for all the familiy. But there is not many Restaurants and cafes nearby, so bring snacks.
