I have spent time at Joan and Charlie’s foundry and workshop. The story of their decades of artistic endeavour is quite extraordinary and deserves to be better known. The video of how they created the Swan fountain should be widely viewed. An extraordinary achievement in engineering as well as art. Their works across Australia should be regarded as national treasures and so should they !!

Congratulations, a wonderful statue, her ancestors would be very proud of her. More people will now be able to see her and ask questions about her to discover more of our states earlier history.

Brilliant work done by Charlie and Joan Smith all over Perth and WA for decades. Australia was so lucky to have these talented people make their homes here where the have contributed so much to our understanding of our own history though sculpture and art. They are both National Treasures. ♥️

Smith Sculptors designed and help install An Gorta Mor Famine Memorial in Market Square, Subiaco, Western Australia. It was unveiled by Michael D Higgins, President of Ireland. From design to completion, Joan and Charles Smith made life very easy for the organising committee of the Western Australia Irish Famine Commemoration. Their expertise and knowledge was excellent. This is an opportunity for us to thank them. Go raibh mile maith agat! (a thousand thank you's). Fred Rea, Chairman WAIFC
