Authentic Chinese food shanghainese style very small shop but jam packed with customers and for a good reason.Food is delicious fried buns were beautiful everything is handmade and you can taste it for sure!Customer service can improve especially cleaning the tables between customers and also serving wonton and noodle dishes at the same time so you can eat them properly together.Definitely worth a visit if you are missing china and want to experience exactly what it is like to eat at a dumpling shop in places like Shanghai

HONG'S DUMPLINGS 寒清點心
Famous for its Shanghai pan-fried pork buns, Hong’s Dumplings is a definite must try when you’re in Box Hill. Wrapped in a soft and smooth outer layer, filled with delicious broth and juicy pork fillings, and finished off with a perfectly crisped bottom. This is so much more satisfying and filling than a XLB, and is a meal in itself.

HORRIBLE. We asked them for 3 of their items on the menu and they didn’t have them. Then we bought steam buns and they handed them to us frozen and refused to cook them. The menu specified hot food and it was extremely pricey for 5 small steamed buns which the then refused to give us a refund for. Poor service and horrible experience.

There is no doubt that Hong’s dumpling is the best shanghainese dumpling restaurant in the town. I’ve found no other places are even close. The flavor of signature pan fried pork dumplings is authentic. You can tell by seeing a lot of shanghainese going there. Be careful that when you bite the dumplings, it would burst with soup. And that’s how you know you are having good dumplings!edit: saw some people left one star because Hong’s dumplings used MSG. Well, that’s the traditional way to make dumplings. If you have problems with that, go and have westernized ones.

Best sheng jian bao in the world. Better than in Shanghai. Not many foreigners eat here. Give it a try. Not many tables; always jam packed. They serve soy milk in plastic bags.

We used to love Hong’s signature pan fried pork buns, unfortunately not anymore. Since it re-opened for dine-in post COVID, we found the pork buns are no longer tasty. They are smaller and with less stuffing, the stuffings are’t as delicious. With the $18 price tag for 10 small pork buns, there’re other quick meal options.

Ordered Takeaway of their signature pork dumplings and sorry to say all I could taste was the MSG. I am scared I will get sick after eating them. Not sure what’s the hype about. The restaurant doesn’t look like a proper restaurant either, I can only hope their kitchen is clean and up to the standard.
