It was really pleasant experience, my mum and I enjoyed and loved the food. They serve a variety of dishes and the restaurant is well located. We also had some gelato from the shop across the street after lunch.

Exactly what we needed. Running late pre theatre called and were welcomed to come in. Checked the reviews and ordered a couple of recommended dishes. Eggplant and tofu, duck spring rolls and pork and garlic chive housemade dumplings. All extremely tasty, great friendly quick service on a Sat afternoon, able to be enjoyed with an Ashgrove Rose. Made the theatre on time . Thank you, we were recommended this as the best in Newcastle and we will be back and look forward to trying more tasty dishes.

What a delightful restaurant! We walked along Darby street which is very nice, and found this restaurant looking so inviting. We ordered dumpling, sweet and sour pork, vegetable and Szechuan chicken. All of them were so nice and in particular we ordered Szechuan chicken by this lovely serving lady's recommendation and I am glad we did. I can confidently say that this was the best Szechuan chicken I have had a very long time. The serving was very helpful and engaging. She also told us that the dumplings we ordered were made by her own hands. And she learned from her mother which reminded me of my own family.We live near Nelson bay, when we come back to Newcastle, we will visit again. Thank you

Maybe we don't eat out enough these days to notice, but the cost of meals for what you get seems too high. Seafood laksa had 5 pieces off some sort of seafood. Pork and prawn bowl was full of potatoe gems ? Lovely atmosphere just very expensive and not a lot of meal / quality ingredients.

Great location, yummy food, generous service, friendly price, and bubbly manager…Newy’s only Chinese restaurant that won’t let you down. Highly recommend their hot spicy cuisines pairing with mini bottle of wines❤️

Decent Chinese food in the heart of Darby street.The menu is extensive however not every option is available at any one time.There are a few standout dishes which I will keep coming back for as they are unlike any that I’ve had before; specifically the crispy duck. It’s sweet, savoy, crispy and tender all at the same time. It’s worth a visit to Mr, rice just to try it.

Popped in for lunch @MrRiceDarby for some Szechuan cuisine which means spicy even if there isn't a chilli next to the menu item! There's an extensive al a carte menu and there's also lunch specials which I opted for.Braised Beef and Bamboo with rice and soup - this is certainly spicy, flavoursome sauce, succulent beef, tender bamboo and rice to balance the heat and flavours. The sweetcorn soup is yum and the meal is very filling and excellent value.Of course I can't leave without dessert and got the deep fried rice cakes in a molasses like deep brown syrup for takeaway. These are slightly crunchy on the outside, chewy in the middle a bit like mochi. The syrup adds just a touch of sweetness. Very tasty.
