Very disappointed with the service. Not helpful at all. The lady in charge who served me this time it seemed to be in a bad mood and eager to get rid of me quickly. Previous visits were quite different.

The best place to buy chickens from. Our chicks are gorgeous and so healthy so if you’re looking for a place to buy yourself pet chickens from, this is the place to do it. They’re also extremely informative when asked questions about anything chicken.

Just had two new white hens delivered this morning, great transaction no hassles whatsoever. They arrived very happy and healthy with nice red combs. Eating and exploring straight away, such lovely hens. Bought our first 4 from here as well. Staff are so nice, friendly and knowledgeable. I will always buy from Barter and Sons. I highly recommend this place to buy your Fluffy friends.

Great place to get and learn about raising chickens.

I called for some assistance/ technical questions about broodiness etc. Deb was very helpful and knowledgeable. I've got 4 hens from this hatchery and touch wood, they are very good layers and very healthy and happy.

Be careful with their 'day olds' bought 9 hens and 2 ended up being roosters. Not happy.....Just to add, they've been really good about it and agreed to swap them for hens. I've got no hesitation in recommending them for your chooks.

I went in the summer and all their chicks were overheating, I told them they should turn down the heat lamps but they just handwaved me. I guess the comfort of hundreds of animals under their care don't really matter to them. They also didn't seem to understand the different qualities of the breeds they sold. Service wasn't great. I will describe the ones I have purchased from them here for the benefit of other people.Their Australorps seem to be the show breed kind rather than the laying/meat hybrid kind. They have beautiful plumage but don't lay very much. They also have an egg song (loud vocalisations after laying eggs). They have a black Australorp hybrid breed called a barter black, which should fare better (haven't raised one yet)Their Barter Brown breed is an excellent hybrid egg laying hen. It lays large brown eggs daily and is also intelligent and sociable.Their white silkies have a grey discolouration on their head hair. Just a cosmetic issue. If that matters to you perhaps buy from a breeder with better genetics.Overall the quality of their breeds, besides the barter brown, aren't really as good as they ought to be. But I will say the barter brown is excellent and I'm very happy with it.

They have everything the chickens need and good professional and friendly advice.

Purchased fertilised eggs here today and received the absolute best customer service I've had in a long time. The lady that served us was so informative and let me ask so many questions without judgement or annoyance. Will definitely be back here.EDIT : all of the 6 chicks hatched! Sadly, one didnt make it. But the rest are healthy and very energetic! Already eating and drinking watching mama.
