Gwambygine Ascent

Great place to either camp or a day trip. BBQs, toilets, gazebos and plenty of shade plus heaps of parking.

Beautiful spot I couldnot find the lookout tour that the signs suggested and bridge to river was blocked off, I drove here to stargaze away from city and it was dark enough to see milky way clearly but I was surrounded by trees that blocked my view from any carpark that was a shame because they where all dead anyway, the rest abed down the hill on the way back to the city looked like a better choice I think that will be a better , quieter and clearer option for stargazing for sure

This is a stunning Huge campground with toilets, fresh drinking water, gas bbq’s and a huge undercover area with plenty of seating. There are plenty of gorgeous walking trails to take in the scenery including the Avon River. Highly recommended and easy access for every vehicle.

The magic of Gwambygine has faded with time. Although we visited in summer when the water in the river has subsided the area now has unkempt grounds, the toilet block is messy and neglected.The meat ants are unbearable at this time of the year, clinging to you even as you walk.Parking for all but the smallest vans is a nightmare,some of the bays need to be pushed another 10 feet in to accommodate a bit larger van than our 17' poptop.Lookout over river is closed due boardwalk leading to it being in a unsafe condition.York shire seems to have lost any interest in maintaining what was such an overnight highlight a number of years ago.Hopefully it can be bought back to it's former glory in the future.

Beautiful campground close to the river and the historical town of York. Not to well managed from the walking trails overgrown and the walkway" damaged and closed off from erosion overtime

Better than I expected. So many secluded parking areas. Tight roadway but still managed my 26ft Jayco in.

We enjoyed one night here camping.The facilities were clean and there was plenty of shade from the trees.Not much water in the Avon River and the walkway was closed but still a peaceful place to stop.Just watch out for the ants!

A great place to camp overnight. Flushing toilets a bonus. Basic playground. BBQ look good but don't work. Walk to tower closed fir at least 5 years - why no repairs? Walk to old school is well signed but so overground with grasses.
