John's Fish & Chip Shop

I'm hoping this was a once off or they were having an off night. The chips cooked good but lacked salt which made them taste plain. I got told 10 minutes but waited double that and the worst part was I ordered $5 of chips and it looked like $2 worth. Im pretty Sure this is the first bad review I have ever written. Not a good experience but I will give the benefit of the doubt and try again in the future some time

Went today for lunch with family. Served by older guy named Bob. Was extremely rude when asked if they have any fresh fish, was told no fish shop in the world have fresh fish (after asking twice & him just starring back at me with no answer!) Then asked if he has like a catch of the day type of fish & he said fish shops don't do this anywhere, even the 1 in the sea! When placing the order, specifically asked no salt, saw him write it down, order came we unpacked to eat, its loaded with salt! While our meal was cooked & waiting to be packed his mate walked into the store & they had a 10min chat! No priority to the food thats cooked & customer waiting for that food thats now going cold as its out of the fryers! Very plain & boring shop inside. Batter on fish, calamari rings & seafood sticks was horrible its more like the batter you get on a hot dog not on fish products! Asked for sauce & was told the truck will be in later today with them!Really wish I had walked out before placing the order! So rude & very poor quality food. Don't recommend this shop at all. Such bad customer service, food & atmosphere. Overall bad, bad, bad.

Good fresh and crunchy chips. Burgers are great and they do lots of the the different foods like pumpkin cakes and corn jacks. It was our regular. But have found a better one now. Still very good!

Always went to this store years ago for fish n chips, went there again today and its just as I remember, shop is old but don't let that fool you, burgers are amazing, souvalaki is too. Portion size of chips have gotten smaller but just as yummy and crunchy. Service is great, always greeted with a hello. Thanks!

Found this place on Google maps and thought i try it as is was treated 4.2. So, the size of the fish is a joke. The taste of food was good though although i personally don't like my chips that oily. The lady that served us seemed not bothered to serve us. No thank yous, or any response in appreciation that we are spending money there and not somewhere else.

Best chips in Australia? We got a $6 min chips to check this claim. Fair portion, well fried, I liked the chips. My kids reckon it’s definitely true.

Does a really good fish souvlaki and chips are awesome! It has been fresh every time I've gone in. Will be back to try other items on menu for sure!

Superb potato cakes, everything else pretty good (flake, chips, Sth Melb dim sims). You need to spend more on the chippers ($6 being min) and my piece of flake was a tad small but these aren't major gripes. Another rating closer to 4 1/2 stars then 4 but I'd still definitely recommend. They also sell refrigerated large blocks of chocolate for the extra indulgence. How good is that! Their burgers are also good.

Bone in my flake greasy got sweet nothing for what we paid 32$ should have just got maccas not a happy customer at all digusted never had a bad experience with fish and chips in my life. To bad for something quick n easy for dinner wouldn't feed it to my dog actually
