Athelstane House
Cannot comment on the service as we did not ectually see a person during our room only overnight stay. However, room was great, well stocked with a pack of biscuits, hot drinks and water as well as a mini fridge. Bed was comfy and large round spa bath was a dream. So easy to find, could see it as soon as we got off the bus, and entry directions had already been emailed to us. Felt very safe and very clean

Where do I begin? Athelstane House is AMAZING. Laurel and her team leave absolutely nothing out when it comes to creature comforts and ambience. We had a 2 night winter-is-coming get away and chose Athelstane House for its uniqueness and we weren't disappointed. Steeped in heritage, the building is absolutely stunning inside and out. The rooms and warm and inviting and the beds were SO COMFORTABLE!!! We were pleasantly surprised when we saw the breakfast menu and the realised that we could have it delivered directly to our room, any time between 8am and 9.45am, a beautiful little treat after our first night there. A big breakfast with stunning local produce, fresh juice and a hot coffee, all delivered to the door and the taste was AMAZING! I do not know what goes in to those creamy, parmesan mushrooms, but I wish I did! Easy to book, east to check in, easy to move around and so so close and central to everything. Beautiful spacious areas inside and out to sit and relax with friends and on our second morning, after friends stayed, we all ate breakfast in the dining room, which again, did not disappoint. We absolutely cannot wait to come back and we so look forward to seeing how it changes over the coming years, as I know Laurel and her team are always looking for ways to make this place stand out that little more. If i could give more than 5 stars, I would. We even got a free take home jar of pancake mix for not requiring a turn down service on our 2 night stay, what an amazing initiative! <3

If I say something you will definitely book a room. If you book a room then that will sadly limit my options. The staff are wonderful. The meals at breakfast are wonderful. The rooms are wonderful.Have I convinced you to stay away?

Had a one night stay in a balcony room. Room was very clean and comfortable. Decided to come back to Athelstane after a two night stay last year. We love a well maintained, historic country guest house, and Athelstane is just that. We really enjoy the breakfast; delicious and staff are friendly and welcoming. We’ll be back.

Excellent accommodation, super professional and friendly staff. Was nice to have access to multiple sitting areas, especially enjoyed reading on the front balconies. Good breakfast options, was nice to have the option to eat in the dining area or have room service. Soaking tub an absolute bonus!

I was in two minds about writing this review. Part of me wants to keep this hidden treasure precisely that way, whilst the other, more generous me is inclined to share with the world just how fabulous it is to experience a stay at Athelstane House. We booked the last remaining room a few days before our spur-of-the-moment trip, and were fortunate to get a booking at such a busy time of year. Room no 10 is the only bedroom on the ground floor (aside from the Apartment) and runs directly off the charming and verdant courtyard which is covered by a productive grape vine. The room was quirky and quaint, with all the creature comforts you would wish for, including a ceiling fan, air conditioning, and high quality glassware for your champagne and wine. The shower is walk-in, which was perfect. The Queen bed was supremely comfortable - we had the best sleep for the three nights that we were here. There is a single bed also should you need it. Breakfasts were great, and all the more for being able to roll out of bed and open the door directly to the courtyard where we dined. Athelstane House offers a number of lovely sitting areas both inside and outside; it was a sublime experience relaxing on the front veranda in the evening with a drink in hand, watching the world go by. We loved 3-night getaway, and are looking forward to returning over the next couple of months. Thanks so much Laurel for making our experience such an unforgettable one.
