I agree with most of the other reviews. Staff on my experience where great and welcoming, but seemed overwhelmed even on a quiet night so I can imagine it even more so on a busy weekend. Food Is greatly overpriced but barely acceptable for the location, quality is equivalent of RSL $10 meal like someone else mentioned. Also has the same issue waiting for dessert, we ordered one apple pie at the same time ordering our main, we waited about 20-30 minutes after finishing our main for dessert to come after asking a waitress, I noticed almost every other diner having the same issue. Apple pie was great but can't imagine it's anything other than frozen and microwaved.

This place was shocking. One of the worst I’ve been to. On the first night I ordered a pasta dish. It was listed on the menu with vegetarian as standard and a vegan option. There was no meat listed on the menu for that dish. I only wanted vegetarian so ordered it as was. It came out with chicken and ham. I was told that even though it was listed as vegetarian- I still had to ask for it to be meat-free. Have never had that happen before. The staff reluctantly took it back for me.The next night I ordered the other vegetarian option and was sure to specify I didn’t want meat. The risotto was so bad. It was flavourless and had undercooked cabbage and onion. They’d also tipped some canned corn into the mix. It lacked flavour and was awful. I barely ate it - when the waiter collected my mostly full plate, they didn’t even ask how it was.The service over both nights was slow and unfriendly. The atmosphere was lacking - no music and very few people there (I can now see why!) It’s such a beautiful building and the potential is being wasted by this restaurant.

I would recommend bringing your own food over eating at this restaurant. This place is very quiet but instead of feeling historic, it just feels run down and dingy. The menu and advertising try to make the place seem sophisticated and upper class, but is let down by the unprofessional staff who seem irritable and unsure. I was lead to believe that there was a choice between continental or a full breakfast and ending up paying $15 for a bowl of Coco Pops, much to my disappointment when the bill come back with full hot breakfast". For dinner the choices seemed limited and the menu was very fancy

The caves were amazing but this restaurant was a HUGE let down. The actual decor was nice and gives justice to the vintage aspect of the building and its history but that’s about it for the positive. The service was quite slow and it took them half an hour to even take our order - and then another 40 minutes to serve the food - we were starving by the time the food came out but after I took a bite of my serloin steak I almost gagged...it was horribly gamey...the centre was cold and it was as if they spent most of that time defrosting the meat from some freezer. The gravy was also terrible god knows where it came from. Potatoes and greens were also meh. After one bite I lost my appetite and just left. My wife had the barramundi which was also of a similar caliber. Food exactly wasn’t exactly cheap either...but on a positive note the wine selection was nice which I downed to cover the taste of the steak and my sorrows of having to go through this experience. You’re better off just going to the bistro downstairs/bringing your own lunch.

Service was terrible, food was incredibly overpriced, food was cold and bland. In our time there, 3 tables had to leave.Manager wouldnt let us into the restaurant 5 mins before our reservation even though the restaurant was mostly empty to keep her from being confused

All of the 1 star reviews incorrectly contextualised their expectations. The hotel is a century old accommodation and not privately owned so, they need to understand there are fair limitations. My fiance and I had an amazing weekend, staff were incredibly nice and accommodating! The food is acceptable and on par with what you would expect from a 3 star hotel" and the staff is the reason why I give 5 stars. We've stayed at places that cost $2000+/night and had very high expectations at those accommodations (obviously) but

It was way less that poor, we had “high tea” tea bags” not proper tea. Stale hard cold scones with jam that was weird (no fruit in it at all) cream that was so sweet and tasted of vanilla/chemicals, stale cake and for the price the amount served was a joke…. Do not waste your money.Instead…..Take a trip to Mayfield Garden food is great there.
