Wonderful camp set in a beautiful location and lovely little township. Owners were helpful and friendly. Very nice new amenities block. Lots of wildlife to see.

$15pp, great shower and toilet facilities. Beer on tap. Didn’t meet the owner mentioned in many other reviews, but the staff we dealt with were lovely. Definitely the best camping in Laura.

Arrived as planned but the place was closed.Advised by a patron that I could just pick a site and deal with the proprietor in the morning. All good. The camp-site is below average. The meal we had the next day was average. We were able to leave our caravan in the adjacent paddock while we explored the Cape for about 10 days. When we returned, the proprietor was not available to release our van as he was in Cairns.A patron of the Hotel was able to locate a key to release our van. We stayed overnight. The proprietor was cordial at all times but his unreliability caused some concern.

Wasn't a pleasant experience there. Meals advertised 6pm - 8:30pm but kitchen wasn't open at 7pm when we arrived so we got turned away. Owner was quite rude about it to my wife so we'll steer clear of there on our future visits.

We had lunches and dinners at The Peninsula Hotel. Bronwyn and Kyle were so helpful to us during our time in Laura and the food was great. Most important, however, is that Bronwyn and Kyle did everything and more to look after us - and for this they will always have our sincere thanks.

The Owner was disgusting and rude towards myself and my family. Will never come back and never recommend for anyone to stay. Says laundry but I was told there was nothing to use. Travelling with kids and on the road for weeks we chose this mainly of this reason. He overcharged us for the kids when we said they were only so old he refuse to accept our taller daughter as a child and said she would be adult prices. We slept in swags. Female amenities has a hole in the floor. Disgusted at the whole experience.

The staff here seem lovely but the owner puts a tarnish on the whole experience. We're working part time on the road while we explore the region and my partner needed some power to charge his laptop for work. Asked if we could plug it in while we had some drinks ($7/XXXX Can). That was almost too much for him to bear and he ended up asking us to leave at 4pm. Next morning the towers were down in Laura and there was no phone reception, power or internet. We stopped by the pub to ask if they knew anything about it (needed it for meetings that morning) and he was rude to us, saying we shouldn't leave home if we are that worried about it. Maybe you shouldn't own a bloody pub if you can't talk to other humans decently.

It is with sad news I learn of the death of Old Stumpy, the owner, in a double croc attack in Far North Queensland. He was the most generous man you could ever wish to meet. Many refined city dwellers simply couldn’t understand his no nonsense Bushman’s attitude. He had the backbone and can do attitude typical of those that have to fight adversities of rural living without the comfort of immediate outside help.I arrived at the old Quinkan Shanty bar after the main bar had been burnt down, literally a pub with no beer! Kevin had arrived previously with a truck with a refrigerated container and beer! He lost no time setting up a temporary bar in an old shanty by the campsite, whilst the new bar was being built. This bar was frequented with many white and Aboriginal people and it was the first and only time I have seen Aboriginals treated with equal respect and dignity. It was their bar and they knew they were welcome. He even asked me to drive whole family groups home on occasions when they had heavy shopping to carry.Yes to outsiders he could appear brash, maybe even rude, but if you knew the guy, you knew he would give you the shirt off his back. We have lost a modern day legend. Australia and Laura in Far North Queensland are poorer for his passing. I hope in celebration of his life this place could become known forever as ‘Old Stumpy’s ‘

Lovely bunch of people running the pub, I can’t even begin to describe how good the steak is! Just wow! There’s an awesome beer garden out the back to watch the sunset and listen to the birds. Plenty of camp sites to choose from also.
