Tern Island Nature Reserve
The island that is not an island. Currently it is a peninsula. Formerly an island but seasonal tides have continued to shift sands attaching the island" to the mainland and adding to the tip of the peninsula to the point where annual dredging is required to allow boating enthusiasts access from the Bent Street jetty. Walking around the island is a real delight watching the fairy terns

This is a nature reserve and should only walk along beach waters edge so as not to disturb fragile flora & fauna. This is actually a spit unless very high tide. NB: WA has 2 islands named Tern Island.

Quiet area. Only few people around at lunchtime on a Saturday. You can walk the whole circuit in a relatively short time. Moderate amount of seaweed around the water's edge, but clearer further in. Fish of all sizes sighted.
