Birdwood Park Commemorative Gardens

A peaceful setting with picnic tables to enjoy a snack or just reflect on those soldiers who served in WWI and paid the ultimate sacrifice in order to provide the security and freedoms that Australians enjoy today. I am forever thankful for their services. There are information boards to tell some of the story about the ANZACs, 10th Light Horse Regiment, the Balingup Soldiers and the Avenue of Honour. There is even a tribute to the 136,000 service horses that never returned to Australia. The grassed area has been mowed and the rubbish bins were emptied while we were there (Oct, 2021). Some of the plants have started to overgrow the paths so hopefully these will be tended to. Watch out for the ant infestation on one of the garden paths.
