The lush green lawns, beautiful trees, and vibrant community atmosphere make it a perfect spot for a lazy afternoon picnic.

I’m a huge fan of this secret place of beauty. It’s a little more wild than the botanical gardens but has some special vistas and unique plantings. Lots of descriptions available too which is a plus for plant lovers.

A beautiful gem hidden away from sight. A very peaceful place with many beautiful gardens, majestic trees and the greenest lawns.

The spectrum of trees and plants is truly amazing. A place you could come back to over and over and see something new every time. A must visit for parks in Richmond. Freeway nosie can't be helped..

The trees are mature, the garden looks cared for, but it has been allowed to mellow and nature has taken over a little. Burnley Gardens has got this just right. What I liked:. Lynch's tree selection and how he used the trees to create aframework around the areas of lawn.. The network of paths, with themed garden-rooms under thecanopy of the trees.. The layers of shrubs, groundcovers and plant combinations.Burnley Gardens was founded by the Horticultural Society of Victoria. The Gardens were designed by Alfred Lynch (opened in 1862). It became Australia's first school of horticulture and small farming. There is an app you can download before you visit.

After visiting numerous gardens in Melbourne, we decided to have our wedding ceremony and reception in the Sunken Garden in Melbourne’s Burnley Gardens. The University of Melbourne staff were supportive and understanding of our needs and wishes, and they did everything they could under difficult COVID restrictions. There are lots of places within the gardens for wedding photographs without being disturbed. The Sunken Gardens are paved with ramp access - perfect for guests with diverse mobility needs. We set up socially distanced seating under the wisteria walk, which provided a stunning environment for us to walk down the aisle, and also brought our own (pegless) gazebo for our catering team. This place is truly a hidden gem!
