The Toorak Tractor

i purchased 2 head gaskets and TTY head bolts though this company and was ripped off. i can't comment on mechanical work or servicing as i ordered them over the phone and had them delivered. i paid $112 for head bolts and $150 for 2 head gaskets. I messed up installing one side so i went to another reputable store and paid $18 for 1 of the same head gasket and $60 for a full set of TTY head bolts. like i said this review is purely ordering parts though this company.

My discovery 2 needed an engine swap, Dave was very knowledgeable and have learnt a few things that comes with a new land rover owner. Was recommended from a friend and definitely someone i would recommend to others.

I took my Perentie to Toorak Tractor on a recommendation after major issues coming down from Sydney before lock-down. They were professional and on the ball from the start, and when repairs where disrupted by lock-down and I had to go back to Sydney enormously helpful and flexible in a managing the difficulties that caused.David helped organise a good value tow back to Sydney for me and charged me very reasonably for the work that he could do on the Perentie given the situation. It was a fantastic experience dealing with David and i couldn't recommend Toorak Tractor more to anyone looking for quality service for their Landrover in Melbourne.

Had my D2 TD5 for 18 years, did 490k thanks to Dave’s servicing and fixing things before they broke.Never had a breakdown and needed towing.Now have a D4. Dave did an EGR update and remap.Goes like a cut cat and returns 10.6 towing my little caravan. Definitely worth the investment.

3 years ago Dave rebuilt my gearbox. Been hard to put KM's on it through lockdown but after a few outback trips... it's going strong and I have faith in the workmanship. Toorak Tractor now does my services. I am happy with both quality of work and pricing. I trust Daves Rover knowledge and not to sell me what I don't need, which makes a big difference to the dealerships

David charged me 3 to 4 times the going rate for work he did on my car. We agreed on a budget. When I asked him the cost of repairs it was just shy of double the agreed limit.He also replaced a part on the car without asking my permission first.Also, he was confused regarding identifying parts of the car. This is staggering as he is claiming to be an expert land rover mechanic.Amazingly he left the distributor loose and I had to go back to get him to tighten it and time it again. When I returned to rectify this severe mistake he set the timing again without bothering to set the revs to correct level disconnect the vacuum advance as per land rover training/mechanic training in general. This is rookie stuff. Be careful of this sloppy crook.If you read this and still engage him to work on your car you only have yourself to blame now.My understanding from research is that David is the new owner of this business and the men that had a long standing good reputation are long gone.David/Toorak Tractor is not a VACC member, this is telling. His workshop looks like a old rubbish tip full of cars he can't get to work.This is not genuine business its just a flat out sloppy operation. People say nothing more expensive than a cheap mechanic. How about a rubbish mechanic that is a deceptive rip off merchant?Have a look at how many the 5 star reviews for this business in the last 2 years come from accounts with only 1 review to their name. Seems a little fishy doesn't it

Took my Landy here after it befuddled a local mechanic. Glad I did, Dave knows his stuff. Sourced the parts quick and did a bang up job for a good as price.Still a long list of mods to do yet, will be going back to Dave for the advice and work advice for sure. Highly recommend.
