Service was friendly and quick, had a nice evening out at dinner here.We went for the set menu with the two main choices, the food were delicious but a bit too salty for my liking with some of the dishes.Everything is made in house and found out they also use herbs from the garden in their dishes. Love to see restaurants sourcing ingredients locally or home grown.

Bar and restaurantI rate places on the whole experience I have been here a few times. This time not good due to a few issues over menu items. All other time have been excellent. Even restaurants can have an off day. Had a lovely table near the window and the food was ok with the fish excellent as was the slow cooked pork. The potatoes are fantastic. In the past we’ve had the the chefs tasting menu which is consistently good.It has a nice bar area and you can sit outside. The restaurant itself had nice decor. Toilets on site and easyparking.Love your local guide -M❤️If helpful like or follow me.

We loved the entrees, they had beautiful layers of flavour! The pasta was delicious with lovely textures. Everything was delicious although I thought the desserts were a bit average.

We enjoyed our dining experience at One Penny Red recently. Staff are very attentive and friendly. The food was exquisite. We opted for the a la carte option and enjoyed the tuna tartare, duck liver pate, parpadelle pasta and fish of the day with a side of potatoes. Thank you for a great meal

Excellent service and nice menu but when restaurant is full, it’s very loud and difficult for conversation. We were a table for 7 and had the Trust the Chef menu. Anchovies & pepper wrapped olive, beautiful oysters, salt cod fritters, perfectly cooked grilled asparagus with poached egg and pecorino cheese, octopus and potato, fabulous crispy potatoes, pomegranate glazed lamb and to die for banana and salted caramel beignet with chocolate sauce. Very ample portions and again, wait staff were superb - friendly, accommodating and efficient. Wine was also perfect!

The akoya oysters were the bomb. Sooo fresh and delicious. The other food leaned on the salty side of things. I didn't like the cauliflower or octopus salad much. The rest were ok. The donuts to finish were pretty good. The atmosphere is more casual cafe style, with hard wooden chairs.

There are lots of excellent restaurants in Sydney. It's often difficult to justify travelling distances to experience the decadence one finds at One Penny Red.The migration of dining to the suburbs is complete with OPR. You will now find suburb tastes and service in the suburbs.Your taste buds will thank you. You will experience wonderful waiters and supreme tastes. Their 4 or 5 course meals take you on a taste journey that will leave you satisfied and entranced without feeling bloated. They have carefully thought of the order of the food and how often it's delivered. A wonderful dining experience. Now .. you ask, what is behind the name One Penny Red? The building was originally a post office. I'll leave you with this trivia when you dine.

The difficulty getting around the city for a reasonable price saw us walk to the local guy—One Penny Red—on New Year’s Eve. Set in the rather grand surrounds of the former Summer Hill post office, the dining room is white and spacious with an interesting shape. Upstairs, the former mail sorting room has been given a moodier makeover as Vernon's Bar, named for the government architect who designed the space: Walter Liberty Vernon. And, after wrapping my laughing gear around a Vago mezcal-based blood orange margarita ($23) and an even better Plantation rum-based and habanero-spiked Paris is Burning ($21), I resolve to return to it to imbibe. The wine list is expansive but astutely priced. The 2021 A. Rodda Willow Lake Chardonnay ($89) represented the best nexus of quality and price for me, and shone against the opening gilda: white anchovy, guindilla and olive. With the whole restaurant on a five-course set menu ($135/person) it was a surprise to be offered choices across each course. This saw me wrap my lips around Western Australian akoya served on their beautiful shells with sea grapes, ginger and bonito vinegar. These Leewin Coast shellfish taste somewhere between an oyster and a mussel. We took our greens as crostini topped with smashed peas, snaps, mint and Meredith feta, and in a octopus salad. The latter was a little disappointing, the usually steak-like Fremantle octopus fried until too crisp against sorrel, well-handled rounds of Kipfler potato and green beans. In the larger plates, Yoder free-range chook sat on the juicy, pink edge of where I like it against anchovies, sunflower and Turkish urfa peppers. A 300 gram Tasmanian Cape Grim steak served tagliata was enjoyable against a trio of mustards with a surprisingly sweet horseradish. The crispy spiced salt potatoes it arrived with didn’t eat as well as they read with big undercooked chunks of potato nestled among the crisp bits. Individual desserts saw us enjoy warm banana and caramel beignets dipped into a hectic chocolate fudge sauce and a pretty nectarine melba that made the most out of waterlogged summer stone fruits by poaching them.

What a gem of a restaurant! Tucked away in the old corner post office in suburban Summer Hill, this restaurant has such a lovely ambience, super friendly & helpful staff, delicious food & incredible wines! As soon as you walk in, you are made to feel special. The food was all delicious & my top picks are the foccacia with split pea dip, salt cod fritters, crispy potatoes & cauliflower and beignets! The wines are amazing with lots of interesting wines by the glass as well so its great to be able to sample a few different types. Such a lovely, warm & inviting experience and I can't wait to return.
