We hired a 4wd for our KI trip and had no issues with it despite being a bit rusty (the island is hard on cars with the salt!). The lady at the airport check-out counter was super friendly and also gave us lots of places to visit + a schedule of what was on that week. Watch out for wallabies! We didn't hit one luckily but they were prolific.
