Stirling Range Retreat
What a GEM! Not the most luxurious place, but who the hell cares. The wildlife alone is worth a couple of nights, but they have wicked and cheap little BBQ packs of snags, steaks, veges and much much more to cool up a storm to have with a Castle Rock Pinot that you picked up along the way.Go nightspotting and hit the trails early morning for crazy numbers of bird species!!

Best campsite during our visit to WA. Would definitely come back and do more hiking. Amazing hosts! Felt safe, relaxed in this peaceful hidden gem.

Caravan does not include bedding, so bring your own sleeping bag and pillow, and the water quality is quite poor, so be sure to bring extra drinking water. For $70/night this came as a surprise. However, the location is excellent for summiting local attractions without risking dawn kangaroos.

Great place to unwind. A lovely view of the Stirling Range to one side of the Retreat. Really close to the turn off for Bluff Knoll. The room was a good size for 2. The bed didn't sag thank you very much and which we appreciated very much after our hikes. We slept alot and caught up on some much needed rest.No mold or musky smells. There is hot water but try not to waste or use too much. Limited supply. No internet or phone reception. So real get away for modern life and technology. No TVs in the room either.Great to see the stars and astrophotography. Or when there is the camp fire on cold nights are great to meet people or toast marshmallows or toast a cheese jaffar.Enclosed pool area, small kids playground. Camp kitchen, bathroom, and toilet facilities. Telephone booth.Caravan sites, tent sites, cabins and a small reception hall. The long trucks going past can be loud from time to time.I strongly recommend going on the hikes in the morning. The sun can be killer if you aren’t prepared. Lots of people don’t take this seriously, get burnt, and dehydrate. People have died or had to be air lifted out because they weren't prepared for the hike up. Bring water and snacks. Please take your rubbish with you. Don't litter.Keep Australia beautiful.

It’s very far from Albany town . But it’s right opposite of bluff Knoll and Mount trio. There is only a washing sink , a 3 burner cook top ( with the ignition not working ) luckily we brought our own lighter and ended up have to lend to people who try to cook there. They have many camp site there so one dish washing sink is definitely not enough to supply for so many camp site. It’s very inconvenient , they don’t even have an oven in the common kitchen. No tv in every single cabin or rooms, no internet, no ceiling fan in the shared kitchen. This place is basically not a convenience place for family. Wouldn’t come back again

Great location close to the action. Lost one star for accomodation being very basic and no frills. And lost another star (not really their fault - but should be clearly advertised on their website) for no mobile reception unless you are with telstra. If I had known this I would have bought a dongle with me. Instead I found out when I got there and drove to Albany Telstra, only for them to refuse entry to shop as it’s appt only (lack of staff) - must be small town mentality , never heard of having to book an appt to buy something (it’s not Hermes).

Not ideal for swag camping as the sites are dirt. Stayed in motel room instead which I thought was overpriced for the room with old furniture and a sign that said if you moved the furniture you will get charged for the staff to move it back. Bit hard when the beds are bolted to the floor so the only thing that could possibly be moved was the table and chairs. If you have a van I’m sure it’s fine. And if you want the sunset hike to Bluff Knoll then stay here in a van. But for me, in the swag, I should have stayed at Porongurup.

The best camp ground in the whole world.Stirling Range Retreat is perfectly located so that campers can take advantage in the incredible view of the Ranges. The retreat has knowledgeable staff, is well-equipped, clean and peaceful. I have had many delightful stays at Stirling Range Retreat. We are so lucky to have all that we do in Western Australia!
