Tonight I called the emergency department at flinders because I was in serve pain distress I had a strangulated hernia which requires immediate emergency surgery its life threatening. I was told to present asap to the emergency department. I waited about 2 hours in the emergency section the triage nurse notice I was still waiting and came up to me and said ill try and get you in, a nurse came in very frustrated and started to push me through the electric doors my mother my wife & son and neighbor who drove me in were in shock by the way she interacted with us wouldn't let my wife or mother in, even though they said 2 people can come in with you. She said no one can come in its too busy there's no room after pushing me in I noticed a full room people everywhere mostly visitors she said wait here and proceded to leave I said I could have waited in the other room with my family if Im going to do the same thing here she stormed off while I was trying to ask a question. Hospital/medical SOP requires an emergency surgery in cases of strangulated hernias its life threatening not to be left in a room waiting not knowing anything. Very upsetting experience you wonder why people died while waiting for assistance inside the emergency department.

If I could give minus stars I would. Arrived just before 2000 still at the hospital 0530 with no outcome. One doctor on shift reading some comments below this doesn't seem to be a one off.Was take from the main waiting room at 0200 after waiting 6 hours and have been waiting another 3.5 with no end in sight. One of the ladies on shift is lovely and helpful unfortunately doesn't make up for the disgraceful wait times.Something needs to done about this but let's be honest nothing will change when the government cares more about budget than people's lives. The lack of stars are not for the staff but the hospital management/whoever is incharge of this.

Was referred to Flinders over Noarlunga by the COVID hotline after experiencing difficulty breathing. As my partner and I were both COVID positive, they just asked to change into N95 masks that they provided at the front door. The waiting room was almost full but all the staff were super lovely, kind and patient while we checked in and visited triage. We waited about 2 hours and were taken to a room set up for Advanced Respiratory Issues (COVID positive patients) and had the loveliest nurse called Kevin. He was thorough, friendly, made myself and my partner feel at ease and checked in on how he was going with his COVID as well. He even got us both sandwiches, apple juice and jelly as we’d not had dinner and were there until the early AM as I got fluids, ECG, chest X-ray and bloods etc.Without a doubt one of the best hospital/emergency experiences I’ve had (sounds weird to say but I’ve had a few) and I cannot thank all the wonderful doctors, nurses and everyone that helped us. Even when they weren’t attending to me, they were busy but in good spirits and dealt with all patients in the same friendly and timely manner. Even the rude and demanding patient that was there around the same time got the same fantastic treatment.Just a reminder that you often aren’t seen based on how bad your pain is; breathing issues/anything related to airways and making sure the patient is alive are priorities for the ED team. Thanks again guys and I hope Kevin has the best holiday in London!

The staff is good, but the waiting period doesn't define the emergent situation. The nurses at triage are making files which are put in piles in file racks on desk. The exigency level of files is acute and ambulant. I saw the doctor came and picked up the top most file and called the patient. The files beneath might have been there for longer. I was told there are 4 patients ahead you and still waited for two and a half hour and still counting. Probably the pain of some people is less acute than others. It has been almost four hours now, still waiting. I was told there were 4 people ahead of me. The files from top being picked. Now they are saying time cannot be presumed. Probably will be seen by tomorrow.

last place on earth that I would go to.6 hours wait and so had to leave and go elsewhere.staff assume that you are going to complain when you approach them even if you are simply requiring a pain killing tablet, and so they talk to you in an unfriendly and abusive manner. Before I even had a chance to say that my wife was in pain (suffering from mesothelioma -- and is terminal), sitting in the cold in her night ware after being plunked down by the also inconsiderate paramedics, and that could I have a couple of paracetamol the warden screamed at me Sit down and we'll call you when it is your turn" in her aggressive and ignorant manner. After waiting for another 20 minutes and no tablets we left and went to Ashford Hospital. Now i know why they have such a low rating. In my opinion staff there would be more suited to controlling the inmates of a prison."

Could you please explain the definition of the term 'emergency'? It seems like a word that anyone can define. In the case of a medical emergency, it is important for the patient to be attended to as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience recently. I waited for 5 hours without receiving any response from the doctor, so I approached the nurse for information. However, I was not pleased with the nurse's behavior. I don’t know how they measure patients urgency. I never ever recommend to others to go to FMC emergency.#horrible experience#poor service quality

Totally apauling would be an understatement here. The simple fact is my dog gets treated better than humans here. 3 years ago my dog was in horrendous pain, I took her immediately to the vet. The dog had a twisted bowl and needed surgery. Within an hour my dog had multiple tests done, and within 6 hours the surgery was completed. Just recently I had a friend who was in constant pain in the stomach area, she had 2 ultrasounds over a period of 3 weeks (this is bad enough), but when she returned to her doctor he suggested she go immediately to the emergency department, and faxed his findings through. More than 8 hours passed before she went to get an actual CT of the area. The hospital continually checked her heart rate and blood pressure, what a waste of time, it's not a heart issue, they did this hourly, but avoided the actual tests needed. At 12 hours we have not gotten the results of the CT yet. 13 hours we were told the results, not what the doctor had assumed. They then suggested that another ultrasound be done, exactly the same as the one 3 days earlier. Enough was enough, my friend asked the nurse to remove the needle from her arm and we left. The really scary part was as we left we saw no one. At the end of the day dogs get treated better than humans in Australia. I am ashamed of this place and the way it treats people, and I am ashamed to have served this country.

Staff were lovely at the emergency. My gripe is that you may as well not go to a hospital in an emergency because you won’t be seen. I sat in the emergency department from 8:50pm until 1:50pm before I told them I’d be leaving to go to another hospital. The staff apologised for the experience… I let them know that it was not their fault.I guess there is something severely rotten in Adelaide’s hospitals (some not all) as they appear to not function in an emergency. There were some people also laying on the floors of the emergency department through this ordeal too.Won’t be coming back here unless I’m in an ambulance and I’m forced too. Also, don’t trust the wait times on the Sa gov website or the FMC estimates. They are just plain wrong. Multiply by 2-10 and it will be more reflective of reality I suspect.
