What an absolutely wonderful tour at Huysens House and art studios! I joined Jo, the guide, with about 15 others to learn about one of our past great landscape artists. The house has been lovingly maintained in its original state and many of Hans and daughter Nora’s paintings are on display. Nora was the first woman to win the Archibald! Well worth the visit. The grounds where Hans was inspired are truly beautiful. Check for tour times.Kerrie

We’ve just had a really wonderful experience at The Cedars. The tour of of Australian landscape artist’s Hans Heysen’s family home (and studio) was a treat. Jo, our lovely tour guide shared intimate insights into the Heysen family life and art, as we got a closeup look at the many great works hanging in the beautiful rooms within the Cedar property. A very very worthwhile experience.

Loved seeing his beautuful large studio & all the art materials there. The artists walk was a pleasure too & reading his words on how his surroundings inspired him.

Lovely gardens and estate and interesting studio. However, although we paid for a self guided tour and nobody else was waiting, we were not told about the Artist's Walk nor given the map we discovered on leaving.

Hans Heysen was one of Australia's premier landscape artists and the tour of his home, his art studio, and his works was informative and uplifting. Volunteers led the tour and the opportunity to see where Hans and his family lived was enjoyable. Nora, Hans' daughter, an accomplished artist herself was well represented in the tour. It is a great way to spend a couple of hours. Book ahead to ensure your place on the tour.

Visited here with some friends and took the artist's walk. This walk is a bit over 4 kms of undulating terrain. You get a good insight into where the painter lived and worked. We'll be going back again to visit the home and the artist's studio.

I knew nothing of Hans Heysen except I knew I loved his paintings. The knowledge imparted by the guide, Celeste, was comprehensive and filled in all the gaps in my knowledge. The garden, in mid winter was beautiful, and the tea room was perfect. Tea on a china cup and saucer that matched topped off a wonderful morning. I will return.

Arrived after the tour commencing time, but we were welcomed by the lovely lady at the front and joined the tour halfway with our knowledgeable and kind guide Jo. Learnt a lot about the Heysen family and I would highly recommend anyone who arrives at Hahndorf to pay a visit here, and do a guided tour if you are interested in arts. The house itself and two studios are definitely worth the entry fee paid. Thanks Jo for an informative, interesting tour and we have got a lot takeaway stories about the Heysen family, and are very excited about the future development plan!
