European Timber Windows

Extremely disappointed is an understatement. This best describes my experience dealing with European Timber Windows and Doors (also trading as Passive House). As soon as I paid my money, the service stopped. When the windows and doors arrived the paint job was appalling and had to be sent back to be re-done. After being promised delivery on 7 separate occasions I finally received the windows 6 months later with a much-improved paint job. My builders had already pulled out the old windows in accordance with the first delivery date so I had ply-board sheets to protect myself and my family from the Victorian winter. I was told these windows and doors would be airtight. Unfortunately, the air flows in freely and they leak water. Not only do the seals not work but they are missing. Other issues include window frames being the wrong size and leaving gaps, the fly screen handle being inaccessible from the inside and the fact that one of the windows doesn’t match the others. They are certainly not fit for purpose. I am so disappointed that my promised premium windows are not premium at all, I have made a series of videos to highlight some of the flaws. Here is the large front door I ordered for my Victorian house. I was able to see it before lock down. It is so well made it is really awesome. Now that I have photos of it painted I can hardly wait to have it installed. Their friendly installers measured everything carefully and have guaranteed the end result. Will add photos in the coming weeks when it is my front door.

Our windows and doors were delivered months late, leading to all sorts of stress and delays to our renovation. We were constantly assured they were “in production” and never given a delivery date despite our builder communicating clearly when they were required and our regular calls and emails when the delays dragged on and on. After they finally arrived we found the sliding doors aren’t airtight to Passive House levels, one even whistles air through during the blower door test. One openable window leaked water every time it rained, we’d go through piles of towels on the floor to mob up the water. It took Euro Timber Windows two years to come and finally fix the problem. The glass on two fixed windows failed, one was the low-e coating and the other cracked after six months, with the crack propagating from a nail on the glazing bead installed by Euro Timber Windows. They refused to replace either, so we had to pay another contractor to supply and replace the glass. Our project is even listed on their website and an example of their work (Armadale project - we weren’t asked, and certainly don’t recommend them). Absolutely appalling experience.

We replaced our two front windows, and the service and product was so fantastic we are now going to replace the rest of the windows in the house. The windows are beautiful, and the increased thermal comfort is very noticeable. There was also the extra bonus of significantly reducing the noise. James the builder was excellent - the install process was efficient, and professional.

The European Timber Window team converted a 45 year old Brick veneer, “freezing in winter, scorching in summer” coastal holiday home into an incredibly comfortable retreat. Before renovation, the “air exchange”, or how frequently the air changed in the house, was more than 30 (blower door test) per hour. Bitterly cold or oppressively hot. Post renovation, its just below 3. Its so cozy, comfortable and homely. The use of triple glazing, airtight windows and doors and insulation befitting the Antarctic region make this our preferred residence. The performance today is every bit as good as it was on installation 7 years ago. Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, especially in Lockdown 4.0

I am an art, architecture and craft photographer, freelance. I have been on site for many of European Timber Windows and Doors, from small domestic jobs to seriously large at Melbourne University. These are not Stegbar off the shelf but custom made for specific sites from highest quality timbers and expertly fitted withbest quality German fittings. I have a sharp and well trained eye. I have never seen a shoddy job from this company. Period. If waiting is part of the game then the reward is getting the best, in aesthetic as well as efficiency terms.

European Timber Windows team designed and supplied a 5.5m long window unit complete with central French doors, to replace existing double-glazed windows in a 65 year old ski lodge at Mt Buller. After 5 years of service in the harsh high UV, freeze-thaw alpine environment, there has been no sign movement or deterioration in any form, largely due to the choice of a very stable timber in combination with a top-quality factory applied paint system. The installation of this window-door unit resulted in a marked improvement in the ambience inside the lodge, with a noticeable heating cost benefit.The ETW staff have a thorough technical knowledge of the material combinations required to achieve optimum thermal and insulation ratings in all styles of windows/doors and construct their windows accordingly, utilising the latest generation top quality European fittings and seals. It would be difficult to find an equivalent product in Australia to match their performance both in thermal efficiency and durability.

We starting building our dream family home in Coburg March 2020 at the start of Covid 19 pandemic. Peter from European Timber Windows and Doors started the Journey with us in late 2019. He worked very close with our amazing architect. Peter him self consulted and worked with us helping us choose the most energy efficient windows and doors in the market. We chose triple glazed timber windows and doors. Peter and his team worked extremely hard through 2020 and 2021 to reach our hand over date in July 2021. The result was amazing. Peter and his team provide great after market service and experience. I strongly recommend any one who is building an energy efficient home or after traditional timber windows to go and Visit European Timber Windows and Doors.
