Kalibrate-ED

I cannot recommend Kalibrate-ED highly enough. I just wish I had found them sooner!! I’ve always had chronic health issues which negatively affected my studies. My mum first found Kalibrate-ED when my younger brother needed help with his HSC English. Seeing the change Ki Yan, made in his life, I was inspired to pursue my own goals of writing. I was enrolled in university but used to second-guess myself. Ki Yan always made me feel comfortable in our sessions. It really helped that she was experienced working with various health conditions and knew how to manage workload around symptoms and medication side-effects. She helped me own what I was going through and how to unlock my potential. Working with Ki Yan literally changed my life. She taught me how to achieve on my own terms, find ways to manage stress and work around varying setbacks. She was adamant about whatever she saw in me and that I could do it, which really helped build my confidence. She literally gave me the steps on HOW to achieve—whether it was essay writing, organising tight deadlines or understanding marking criteria. It was so reassuring that even if I didn’t have the answer, I knew someone that could walk me through it. Ki Yan is always so generous with the resources and genuine care—she treats you like a person or a friend, not just a client. If I walked in upset, I’d always walk out feeling a bit better with a plan of attack.Ki Yan is an extremely accomplished woman who has faced a lot of hardship but still has a very big heart for helping others. Because of this, she challenges me to think big and I know she’s serious. Ki Yan has taught me that I can absolutely have my cake and eat it. Because she has shared how she’s done it herself and proven it can be done. Ki Yan (and Kalibrate-ED) remain one of my biggest supporters even today, connecting me with the right people and helping me walkthrough life’s big decisions.

Ki Yan from Kalibrate-ED is a godsend and I cannot recommend her enough if you're looking for expert coaching. Without her help, I would have definitely flunked harder than a deorbiting sack of potatoes—no hyperbole! One of Ki Yan’s greatest strengths is her ability to maximise productivity and adapt her sessions to my personal needs. Working with Ki Yan made things so much easier because she didn’t try to pigeon-hole my learning style. She didn’t tell me how I ‘should’ learn or expect me to adapt to her teaching. Instead, she ‘reverse-engineered’ my thought process and taught things in a way that made sense to me. Since how I learn doesn't line up particularly well with classroom structure, this made a world of difference to me and meant our sessions were great fun - I started to enjoy subjects that were previously wearing me down into a jaded sloth and I got through things a lot quicker. Ki Yan is also a bit of a wizard when it comes to deconstructing exactly what the teachers want regardless of the subject and is more than capable of helping out if you need subject-specific help across MULTIPLE subjects— she massively exceeded my expectations of a tutor in that regard. For example, despite having 4 assignments due in the same week, Ki Yan helped me deconstruct the requirements and plan the workload resulting in the best quartet of assignment results I’d received all year. It is also not an exaggeration to state that Ki Yan is never at a loss as to what to do next. She is a fantastic mentor not only for overcoming academic challenges but also the challenges of life. She teaches a lot more than what’s in the syllabus, and the skills she has helped me build mean I feel confident to tackle life on my own terms. She’s the kind of person you want helping you work through something challenging-- always immensely helpful, encouraging and supportive. I still seek her advice on things time-to-time as I navigate particularly new or complicated challenges in uni/life. Again, I cannot emphasise enough that without her help, I definitely would not have got into my desired uni degree. This is not a drill. If you need help, call Ki Yan. She goes above and beyond.

It was a pleasure working with Ki Yan from Kalibrate-ED. I wouldn’t have excelled without her help during my HSC and to get into my preferred university course. Ki Yan came highly recommended by family friend who had also worked with her. Ki Yan gave me a clear strategy to best prepare for the HSC which I have also used throughout university. She set clear tasks to manage time and stress during the chaotic school year, especially helpful when preparing exam notes and employing study techniques. Ki Yan is very easy to get along with and combined with her kind-hearted and humorous nature, helped make English not only bearable but actually enjoyable throughout the year. With Ki Yan’s help in Advanced English, I was moved from Rank 48th to 12th in a highly competitive cohort. Previously in Year 11, I struggled with basic essay writing concepts like structure, topic sentences and thesis statements. By helping me understand specific requirements of each Module, Ki Yan addressed feedback I had received from teachers that unfortunately didn’t really explain how to improve (such as ‘needs stronger argument’, ‘be more specific’, ‘needs more’ and ‘boost analysis’). Ki Yan uses a collaborative approach in her sessions. We always worked together on developing techniques to approach and break down particularly challenging questions. She was always available to answer questions or give feedback outside sessions. Ki Yan definitely exceeded my expectations and became not just a teacher but a supportive mentor.

I would recommend Kalibrate-ED to anyone—but especially those who are going through school, Uni or even in their developing professional life. I first encountered Ki Yan from Kalibrate-ED professionally in my first job more than 11 years ago. As a mentor, Ki Yan was very practical and focused on helping me move forward, not afraid to challenge my assumptions if they weren’t’ serving me. She’s different to traditional ‘lifestyle’ coaches in that she’s extremely proactive and takes a genuine interest and personal responsibility in what you do. I still chose my goals and had to do the work but it was really helpful to have someone experienced and successful in my corner who I could turn to for advice. I’ve not had a conventional career path but Ki Yan’s attention to detail, experience and insightfulness meant she was able to quickly understand my situation and help me find a way forward. She gave precise structure and feedback that helped me understand my progress (particularly in career development), as well as the support and opportunity to strengthen skills that I now own and barely need to think about. If you want to work through something challenging and also want to come out feeling like it was a rewarding experience, I’d definitely recommend Kalibrate-ED.

I usually like to rely on my own skills but I was having a lot of grief with a uni assignment (extended essay for Philosophy). A friend recommended I get in touch with Ki Yan from Kalibrate-ED to help refine and tighten what I had put together so far. Ki Yan went through my whole essay with me in detail. Her feedback which was very constructive and detailed—it definitely made me think more about my writing style and how to approach a question or idea. From her pointers, I was able to understand what the problem was and exactly how to fix it in the short amount of time I had until deadline. From my time with brief working with Ki Yan, I learned how to argue my case more confidently and persuasively because I had a better grasp of how to manipulate tone and language for purpose. I received a 74% for the essay which I was really pleased about as I don’t usually get high marks for written assignments. For my next assignment (Chemistry Report), I applied her pointers, especially when it came to stronger wording and specificity/evidence. I got 19/20 which I was really, really happy about! I recently graduated my Medical Science degree and feel I have much more confidence and clarity in my submissions. So if you’re stuck, I highly recommend working with Ki Yan. She’s so supportive and easy to work with, and you really don’t need to spend much time with her to make some big improvements.

Highly recommend Kalibrate-ED for anyone that’s doing their Year 12. Kalibrate-ED delivers as promised. When I started Year 12 (I did IB), I was already behind. I was stressed, unmotivated and avoiding things. And to be honest, at first, I REALLY didn’t want another tutor, they just took up a lot of time for nothing. But it turns out that Kalibrate-ED was the best decision my dad could have made.Ki Yan, my Strategy Coach, was so different to any other teacher or tutor I’d ever worked with because she was able to co-ordinate between all of my subjects, and then also show me HOW to study and write in exams. She could explain every subject in plain English, and completely reorganized my schoolwork, exams, tutors, and extra-curricular activities. Soon, I was going to bed again at a reasonable hour again. I was more confident in the work I submitted and my marks improved DRAMATICALLY.It was just nice to see someone working as hard as I was and explain how to write strong essays, instead of just getting criticised by teachers for trying ‘wrong’. Looking back, I was just so overwhelmed with everything and didn’t know what I wanted in life. With Ki Yan’s help, I figured it out before it was too late. I not only got into the course I wanted for uni but she’s since helped me prepare for internships and job interviews as well—and I got the job!!
