Fig Tree Point Aged Care Facility
Let me preface this by saying that I am a former employee, not a customer.STAFF: the AINs & ENs work their bottoms off to ensure the care needs of the residents are met to the best of their abilities, however the meeting of all needs is not always possible with continual staffing shortages. These shortages are caused by a combination of reduction of skilled workers available & the company continually cutting hours in order to maximize profits. The cleaning & laundry crews get in & get their job done to ensure the facility is maintained to a high level of cleanliness.FOOD: Honestly, the food is pretty great. The head chef has some fantastic ideas & is passionate about providing quality meals suitable for people with complex nutritional needs. You will struggle to find better food in an aged care facility than the staff produce here.EXTRAS: the facility has a full time activities director who programs fun & enrichment for the residents. Regular bus outings are scheduled & concerts are held. There is also a hairdresser who comes weekly to keep residents looking their best.ALLIED HEALTH: regular podiatry, dietician, OT & GP visits. Other allied health is called on an as needed bases.MANAGEMENT: The RNs & facility managers do what they can with the resources they have. Unfortunately, with CONSTANT cost cutting measures ordered by the owner these resources never seem to be enough. If something breaks, it is a battle to get it repaired or replaced, even if it is essential equipment, like a mechanical lifter or a hotbox for transporting food safely from the kitchen to the dining rooms. All in all, this is not a bad facility but if the cost cutting measures continue the way they have been the high level of care residents currently enjoy will not be possible into the future. If you are looking to place a loved one at FTP, the way to ensure they get the best care possible is to visit regularly & put pressure on the company to use your fees to run the facility, not buy new jets skis & renovate their house.
