Unexpected place!The beer garden is really cool, has a really good vibe and is heaps of fun.They have a basketball court on it as well where you can shoot some hoops.They have set up a grill and a kitchen where food can be served.Food is nothing outstanding obviously, but it goes well with the beer.Quite surprised with this place!

Merivale kick goals like Messi, but eventually he gets tackled, and so does this place. The menu looks like a poor merivale imitator, and the result too. The cold, over seasoned fries sit next to a burger awash with special" sauce that can't save it. Crisp bacon is great

The Alex is a vintage Hotel with its original decor. It's a family friendly pub. The food is nice as with all Hemmes Family pubs. The focus of attention is the beer garden .Perfect for Summer but a bit cold for Winter ( no heating ). Walk upstairs to go back in time.

Great vibe...Def family friendly...but such a relaxing Garden for a beer under the heaters....awesome sturdy table an benches...wow...that's a plus...The kiddies enjoying the basketball. But no fuss when the ball went astray....really nice to see fun, calm and everyone enjoying themselves. A Def go to spot.

Great place - huge outdoor space and cosy traditional indoors. Saturday afternoon was banging...DJs in the courtyard, a diverse and lively crowd, awesome food and a fine selection of beers. All boxes ticked!

Great space for an outdoors drinking sesh. The food is ok, but it's more the ambience you're here for. But hey, everytime I do visit, I grab a taco or quesadilla, some chips and whatever else while we grab drinks.It's a great space where you can shoot hoops, play fussball or table tennis, with a drink in hand. It's very family friendly and pet friendly too.

Best part of this pub is the outdoor section with plenty of seating and a basketball hoop which you can ask the bar for a ball. Got the cheeseburger which wasn't too bad, the fries had a bit too much vinegar on them for my liking but overall still enjoyable. Woulf be great if they had a bigger pub-style menu.

This place was not great, just alright. Passing the Alex hotel from the street, the old hotel looked interesting but the backyard part felt a bit contrived, soulless and the food overpriced. Serve sizes were big but so was the price tag $27 for chicken nachos.

Backyard at the Alex
I came here on a work do. Mainly just for beers so I'd just like to give a special mention to the security team who did a great job. A couple of my guys were a little too drunk but they afforded the time and respect to leave and we're in incredibly paitent so thank you. We all left safely and happy. Thank you to Ivan and his team.
