Rosetta Books

So great to see peace has been restored to this book shop with the new owners and the improvements that have been made.

Book selection is decent and prices mostly competitive with online, lots of interesting titles you won't find in chain stores (and a great kids section), but the older lady who runs the counter is almost indifferent to customers. I try to support small business, but in the last 3 times I have visited Rosetta (and made a purchase) I never felt welcome or that my business was appreciated, almost as if I was intruding. What probably saved this place is the captive market tourists provide. I'll strongly reconsider coming back, at least until the attitude of the owners improves, and it seems I'm not alone in this opinion.Edit: LOL @ owner's blithe response to criticism of the frosty reception the counter lady provides. I expect to be warmly welcomed, and when I purchase, to be thanked or at least acknowledged that my custom is appreciated. Why be in the service industry if you are going to treat your clientele like you're doing them a favour?

I visited Rosetta Books this past Thursday with my son, who has ASD, and is enamoured with history books. I was drawn into the store by a book I was going to purchase for our holiday, and my son found a beautiful hardcover history book that drew his attention. I set him up on the floor to leaf through his chosen book while I found something for his younger sister (and hopefully a chapter book for him too). He was then approached by the shop assistant, who took the book from him and told us that it was too precious to be on the floor even though it was in a slip cover. At no point were we asked if we intended on purchasing the book. I left with a devastated young man who wanted to know what he had done wrong, and why his book had been taken away. We will spend our money elsewhere.Rosetta books has responded to our review - as they have done to many others. However, we were the only two individuals in the children's section at the time, myself and my son; as it was 10 minutes to close. We had come in to quickly shop while our lunch was being made next door. The book was removed from him and returned to the shelf. There was no offer for him to read elsewhere. There was only one other customer in the store at the time, a man shopping in the adult section. Who you went and assisted after returning the book to the shelf, while ignoring my very upset son and I as we left the store.

So pleased to hear that Rosetta Books is under new management. The attitude of the staff and owner in the shop has completely changed to friendly, positive and helpful. It is a beautiful shop with many great titles. I wish this business a wonderful future.

I'm a local author and I popped in to meet Rob yesterday. To say the vibe of Rosettas has been transformed since Rob and his wife Lea recently took over is understatement. Rob and Lea are friendly and welcoming which is exactly what a charming bookshop like Rosettas needs. The future of this bookshop has never been brighter. If you haven't been for a while, it's time to revisit...

With new owners this wonderful bookstore has been restored to it's former glory. The coffee shop is back and you feel welcome inside again. So lovely to see so many people visiting and shopping here once more.
