My wife, Kaye, and I moved into our new Ownit home in August and we’re very happy with both the build and the end result. We included Ownit Homes in our search for a builder based on the recommendation of friends who had built with them a couple of years previously. During our search, we were able to view “as built” (not display) homes from several builders. We wanted a builder who would work with our structural design, but would offer a high standard of finish, with careful attention to detail, and quality fittings and appliances. I’m pleased to report that, two months after handover, Ownit, as the builder, and our new house, have exceeded our initial expectations. As a retired engineer and project manager, I was keen to understand the build process and be able to interact freely with the builder. We were the first clients on a new computer system (so there were a couple of hiccups) and I felt a tad unsure of the initial design and specification procedure; however, Ownit responded openly and generously to my questions and I feel the building contract and final specification were as complete as we could get them. In the end we had only six contract variations, of which three were for owner upgrades to electrical, tiles, and appliances. “Colour selection” with the various suppliers for electrical fittings, tiles, doors, windows, etc., was efficient and thorough. Though it’s worth checking at rough in and fit out that all is as you expect it to be, as there were a couple of “disconnects” between concept and reality, but nothing “fatal”. If you’re not invited to, request to do a walk around with all trades during the initial lay out.During the build, Ownit’s site supervisor, Mark, exceeded our expectations in terms of communicating with us and responding quickly to our questions and concerns. He spoke with us at least weekly and was happy to meet with us on site to discuss any issues. During the build, with Mark’s OK, I was permitted by Ownit to interact with the tradies for various “owner supplied” items that were best installed during the build. For example, extra yard drainage and services to my shed. Without exception, I found the Ownit tradies to be professional, thorough and helpful. It also saved some “owner’s dollars” being able to directly engage the trades while they were on site. While it took a bit longer than we expected after contract signing to get started on site, the build progressed steadily and we took possession of the house three weeks earlier than initial predictions. Payments were billed as per the payment schedule and costs met our expectations. Any uncertainties were dealt with quickly and fairly. As with any major project, we have had a few problems post handover. Nothing major and, on each occasion, Ownit has responded quickly and the matter has been resolved without fuss.If you’re looking for a project builder who is willing to incorporate your (reasonable) design ideas, who offers a professional, competent and caring team, both in the office and on site, who delivers on time, to cost, and produces a quality house, then we highly recommend Ownit Homes. They may not be the cheapest builder in SE Queensland, but we have found that they deliver a high quality home to the agreed specification, and more, with a minimum of fuss and a genuine interest in looking after their clients.

We we're struggling to afford to build our 'forever home' - our dream home, until friends suggested we speak to Kurt at Ownit Homes. He was amazing, he made it really easy for us. And we were able to get everything we wanted, everything! And pleasantly within budget (a little left over - heeello new lounge :))Ian was our construction supervisor, very approachable, a fair dinkum aussie - he explained things well. No surprises !We absolutely love it!! thanks Kurt and Ian and everyone who helped us at Ownit Homes.

As each year passes we deal with the ongoing expense of correcting shoddy workmanship. Just discovered today that our stormwater drainage to street falls backwards to the house and needs to be dug up and replaced. Front windows incorrectly mounted and need to be removed, proper waterproofing done and replaced, one downpipe terminated in the front yard instead of the street curb, had to be redone. Roof leaks everywhere since new and many many more items. The great regret of our lives is engaging this company to build our home.

We started our build with Ownit Homes in September 2017. Handover was in February 2018.Ownit has a pre-handover procedure which occurs 3 weeks before handover date. At the pre-handover the Supervisor took us through the site. The painting was terrible. There was a huge bulge in the wall in the powder room which the Supervisor never noticed. There was a hole in the kitchen wall where the appliance cabinet was to sit. During the 3 weeks leading to handover, we asked 3 times if handover was on track. We were assured each time.Handover arrived with all the defects noted at pre-handover still untouched. Our final payment was in Ownit’s bank and we were left with an unfinished house. Ownit stated they had 15 working days after handover to complete fixes. We were now expected to be the Supervisor of the tradies. After our angry emails refusing to do their job for them, Ownit re-instated their lock and took control of the house again. After a month we were finally able to move in. Ownit told us to keep a list of defect issues and present them after 9 months for evaluation. In that time we found rising damp in concrete floors – all the areas that did not have floor coverings. Ownit took no responsibility even though they did test digs around perimeter of house and found no vapour barrier that in standard practice is pushed up against side of slab to prevent moisture ingress. In the future this moisture in the slab could cause health issues (mould) and damage to existing floor coverings. Ownit said that since we did our own landscaping, then we probably cut the black plastic. I provided countless photographs of building under construction where no black plastic is evident. I took the matter to QBCC. They did not give a direction to Ownit to fix and the reasons given by QBCC were questionable and this will now be heard in a QCAT hearing.Quite a number of defect issues have been addressed by Ownit Homes, but only after endless emails and a pile of BS on their part of which we were expected to accept.Aside from the painting which needed a lot of remedial work, there was paint over spray on garage door which after removal showed up faults in the product. When the problem was eventually brought to the Manufacturer’s attention, the panels were replaced. We have extensive scratches on 5 panels of glass. We have a 2 storey house and half of those panels are at a height that could only have been made during construction. Ownit have refused to address the problem. At handover the windows and the house was filthy and this was mentioned in emails requesting cleaning. When the windows were finally cleaned the scratches were obvious. There was a bulge in the stairway which Ownit said was acceptable. If it was acceptable I doubt they would have tried to fix it 3 times. The last time they cut a massive hole in the wall in order to plane the floor joists of the upper floor. That still didn’t fix the problem. The only time I received special attention from Ownit to my issues was when I posted a review on Product Review site. The two Directors rang me and told me that in providing my review “I had grabbed the tiger by the tail”. They gave me an ultimatum to remove the review by a certain time and date. The threats and bullying didn’t work.Ownit Homes have little customer service and seem intent on saying NO, and this was evident in the defect issue with our timber staircase. The landing was splitting and Ownit was intent in trying to make us believe it was natural and was caused through movement. It was conveyed to me that during construction the staircase was left unprotected against rain and other influences. After endless emails Ownit finally replaced the landing and re-finished the stairs and the result was good.Ownit proved that if they take responsibility with defects, problems can be fixed with little angst. If only they had followed through on all issues that are obviously their responsibility, I would be writing a very different review.

Hi, we had a new home built by Ownit in 1990. We saw the beautifull show home they had in Beams Rd so asked for exactly thr same for us ( tiles, paint colours , everything. ) We were told this is the standard you can expect of your home , just tell us and it will be fixed. We were told it be started on a certain date and finished on a date. It all happened like clockwork. A wonderfull experience for us. 2 minor faults afterwoods which were soon fixed. Told a certain price and not $1 more did it costSome people expect to much I feel?

I've just built a new home with Ownit in Tarragindi. I wanted to say thank you for the team for making it such a good experience. In all seriousness, the process was excellent and a real credit to the team, they were always happy to answer my questions, I would speak to the trades and was in communication with our project manager every single week of the process. My comment when I signed up, was that I think they offer a great product for a great price. Now at the other end of the process, I'm delighted to report it all went to plan!

Majorly challenged. Avoid.$2500 deposit for design down the drain. Each cycle of even minor changes takes forever. It's now been 2 months since the plans were sent to be drafted and nocom from ownit. Now bailing and moving onto a firm who has some basic respect for people.Only positive - John was great to work with. Wouldn't trust ownit to build my home. Dodged a bullet.

Our project with Ownit was preceded with a land amalgamation and subdivision resulting in 3 small blocks lots. Our negotiations with Ownit commenced during the development stage and the Ownit sales consultant was instrumental in “getting the deal across the line”. He had a clearly defined knowledge of the entire building process whilst having a full appreciation of our requirements, both in terms of floorplan and cost (and all within the confines of Small Lot Housing Code). He was extremely patient and helpful, and he assisted greatly in the modification of the standard Ownit design to suit our individual requirements. In addition, Ownit senior management’s willingness to work with us towards the end of the development project ensured the building process commenced as soon as Title Deeds issued.Without doubt, the sales consultant was a stand-out, but the entire administration team was exceptional. Communication was always open and frank – albeit on the very rare occasion it was somewhat difficult – but the outcome was always fair to both parties. The predominant reason for selecting Ownit Homes to construct the 3 homes for our family was driven by several factors including competitive pricing, quality assurance but most importantly their proven reputation as a family-run successful business for over 40 years. This was a huge family project for us and we had to be very circumspect in selecting a builder with high, proven ethical standards to ensure the project was completed on time and within budget. Ownit met our brief on all aspects.Quality control throughout the building process was very good, and since handover Ownit has been prompt in responding to and addressing the few minor issues highlighted. The overall quality of the homes is excellent. The 3 homes Ownit built for our family are amazing, up-market homes and working with Ownit to achieve that outcome was an absolute pleasure.I can, without hesitation, recommend Ownit Homes to anyone wanting to build – whether it is a single dwelling or, as in our case, 3 dwellings constructed simultaneously.
