Australian Hotel Winton

If your looking for luxury this is not your stop. I’m looking for character and interesting history. This hotel has it all in abundance. The old hotel rooms are rough but clean beds and sheets. There is a simple community kitchen and shared toilets, baths and showers all old, crude and functional. It is traditional country hotel quarters for a inexpensive price. Excellent hospitality, great food with extensive choice and plenty of cold beer. Five stars from me, but may not be everyone’s choice… Ohh they have better equipped cabins as well.

The evening sheep shearing show was really good :) great country town atmosphere. The food was great too.

We took our children and 4 young grandchildren there for dinner after a day at the Age of Dinosaurs after chatting to the owners daughter. Bad decision. We ordered at 7.15 and got dinner 2 full hours later. The hotel was not full by any means and no one said when we ordered we would have to wait for 2 hours. We were the only people still at this hotel when the food arrived spread out over 15 minutes. The children were beside themselves with hunger and tiredness and by 9.15 ate almost nothing. One 5 year old was asleep, one 4 year old ate nothing, the two 6 year olds very little. When the meals came our the deliverer spoke little English so could not say who which was rump or rib fillet and what sauce it had with it. We sorted that out between ourselves. The steak was good and well cooked. The chicken parmigiana was burnt. A lump of plastic was found in one mashed potato serve. It was overall a very bad experience. I did speak politely to the owner who said I know. I'm sorry". We certainly will never return and will warn others about it. This is the first negative feedback I have ever posted but it was hard to find a positive in our experience."

Good pub, good sized meals at good prices, budget rooms are what a pub room is, does me just fine.

A classic country pub experience is what to expect at the Australian Hotel. The staff were great and the meals were fantastic. The best Dog friendly pub in town.

We had a meal at this hotel and were invited to enjoy the free show out in the beer garden - on sheep and sheep-shearing and sheepdogs. It was a most enjoyable little show, and amazing that it was free. Staff are so friendly. Food was good. All round a great experience and wonderful introduction to Winton (both history and hospitality!).

Enjoyed a quick lunch at this pub during a day trip to Winton. Great meal, friendly service and had a nice chat with the owner hearing a bit about their journey to reopening this grand old lady.

Well worth stopping at! We broke down in Winton and found ourselves looking for somewhere to stay whilst we waited for the car to be fixed, Joe and Kristi provided us a lovely room and were patient and understanding with our unclear departure date.The pub has excellent menus with delicious daily specials. We particularly enjoyed the lunch burgers and pizzas at dinner! We found that the food at Aussie Hotel far succeeds other local eateries that are a stones throw away!Rooms are spacious and homely, the bed was comfortable and we slept well for our 10 day stay!
