Pomona Hotel

We were housesitting in Pomona for 2 months and decided to have try out the local pub. It is a very nice traditional country pub. I am a wine drinker and normally drink NZ wines as they don't give me migraines. I asked the Bar attendant (Gav)If I could have a taste of their NZ wine they had as I had not heard of it before, I only need a tiny drop to know if I like it. Gav was sooo rude and made me feel terrible for asking for this, my husband was shocked and said we should of walked out but said nothing. I have worked in customer service all my life and know someone like this is not a good representation for any business, we won't be returning.

We had chicken schnitzel and a couple of beers a few weeks ago. They were so good. The prices are great, it was a lot nicer and cheaper than hotel in neighbouring town.

Menu is not big but great variety. Seafood is excellent, fresh and very reasonably priced. Steaks are huge and perfectly cooked. A favourite for our family. Good old fashioned place, with great atmosphere.

Food was ok. Medium price. Gravy roll had no gravy. Tables in the dinning room were too low. I couldn’t get my legs under the table. I’m 183cm tall.

The Publican has obviously inherited the hotel, as his demeanour and poor attitude would not be able to build a business that would offer anything to the average punter. Do not recommend. Based on the other offerings in Pomona, recommend skipping the town as a whole based on the lack of quality and people on the pub.

Very disappointed. I ordered the rib eye fillet medium rare and all I could taste was charcoal. Seriously overdone and overpriced. Tiny salad drowning in dressing. Lovely staff and prompt service. Prices gone up significantly within a couple of months. It used to be delicious and enjoyable.

We are talking about a visit to a country pub for lunch. The prices were good and the quality and amount was great. Staff were very friendly and happy to help.

Very disappointing dinner on a Friday night. We are returning customers that live locally, won’t be going again for a meal! Steak overcooked for one of us, the other steak was so small it was like they had cut the rib eye fillet in half, and the chicken fillet was a joke, it was 3 tiny pieces of half tenderloin pieces instead of one fillet. Sauce was tasteless, no mushrooms in the mushroom sauce. The entree was not fresh, it looked like something from the freezer in the supermarket overall very disappointing and the restaurant staff was really rude when I returned my dinner for a refund. We also waited 1 1/4 hours from order time, and the pub wasn’t crowded. We went home frustrated and no dinner for me! Had toast when I got home. The publican backed up the kitchen staff, which was extremely disappointing. We won’t be back.

We went to the local for a new year's eve steak. It was the best steak we have eaten out all year. Staff were great food was great and price was fantastic.
