Good cuz it got me a job in 2 weeks - but I can't say I enjoyed my time there. If you're a backpacker who loves living in hostels and being surrounded by other backpackers, then you'll love it here. If you're a couple looking for a quiet place to live while doing your farm work, maybe look into getting a sharehouse!

Over priced. Watch the bar staff they seem to try and short change you if your not watching.

I really enjoyed my stay at Banana Barracks. They really try their best to get you a job very quickly and the staff is very caring. The whole kitchen gets cleaned everyday. It’s a really social hostel, you‘ll meet so many nice people.

WARNING you won’t get your deposit back of 300$Knowing that 300$ is what you’ll make after 3 long days of Farm work.Especially if you move to a Share-house.Even if you stay more that the “supposed 3 months minimum stay” who’s isn’t written on the contract. You might be able to get 150$ back, but only if you show a flight ticket or a proof that your actually leaving Tully.Unfortunately the price of the room are not reflecting what you expect from a Hostel.

I really loved my time here at the Banana Barracks! Paula and her team are absolute legends and run a great operation. I spent loads of time reading up about different hostels and am really glad that I chose here. I’ve read that other hostels tell you there’s work when there isn’t so you go there, lie about how long the waiting lists are so you end up sitting around for ages, confiscate your passport and then try and rip you off out of your deposit at the end for bogus reasons.Glad to say that nothing like this happened at all at the Barracks. The first time that I called up they said to hold off coming up for a bit as at the time there wasn’t enough work for the amount of people that were there. Happily when I called the second time there was space and I headed straight up. The hostel has a great communal space where everyone hangs out (much better than Hotel Tully up the road) and is generally full of pretty sound people. A few people got kicked out when I was there for being complete idiots which kept the peace nicely. The security guy Glen also deserves a mention as he’s really fair and keeps the peace really well whilst still letting you party pretty hard. The floors, kitchen & bathrooms are cleaned every day and on Monday the whole place is cleaned which keeps it nice and tidy.Being honest there’s a couple of things that you’d want changed. The pool doesn’t seem to get cleaned, a few of the mattresses are pretty old, the rooms could do with a paint and the small table top oven sucks and gets so hot it’s hard to use but apart from that the place is great! Tully is the wettest place in Australia so I’d say it’s best not to leave it until you only have 3 months left to do 3 months farm work as there’s a good chance you might have some days work rained off. I’d recommend the Barracks to anyone and actually miss the place now I’ve got back to Melbourne!

I recently stayed at Banana Barracks. Paula is the most helpful wonderful person you can be lucky enough to meet. She helped me find a job right away and was super understanding and caring about my situation. The place is very organized in helping you get your days done. It is also very clean, and full of energy. The people you meet will make you want to stay. I feel so grateful for my time spent there.
