Tom’s Opal Mine (Tom’s Working Opal Mine)
Fantastic. Went last week and did the tour, we all loved it, very entertaining and informative. The hosts are so lovely. Plus the scones are delicious. The kids get a ride up and down a mine shaft, and go scavenging for opals during the tour. Paul then assesses them at the end and negotiates with the kids to buy the opals they found. Kids LOVED this! Noodling area up the top kept them busy for ages too. Kids begged to go back, so we actually went again yesterday when we drove back through Coober Pedy. Kids favourite experience of the trip so far.

We did the tour at Tom's Opal mine. They did a little noodles expedition for the kids which they absolutely loved whilst the parents got to learn about the opal mining process, exploration and how its formed. Was very informative and thoroughly enjoyed it. We also received some amazing scones and drinks at the end. Great value for money and some awesome people who operate. Will definitely recommend to friends.

We went for the tour and had a wonderful experience. The host also provided gluten free scones with jam and whipped cream with tea after the tour. Heaven!

Definitely go and do one of the guided tours these guys run. Paul is a really nice bloke and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to opal mining. We went in knowing nothing and came out with a pretty solid understanding of how the whole thing works. Quite cool to see opal in the walls too! Paul's wife (I'm sorry, I forgot your name!!) Is a lovely host. Very welcoming, and very knowledgeable, and more than happy to have a chat about the place over a cuppa!Great placed guys!

Fantastic tour of a working mine.. very interesting and informative but exceptional value and fun for the kids. They have their own UV torches and are allowed to go and search for opal in the mine they each come back with a bag and can then sell to the opal dealer at the end of the tour.. (they get to keep it and what ever price they negotiate in Chuba chups)

Excellent tour guide whom is a current miner in Coober Pedy , great knowledge, entertaining with stories , demonstrations, working equipment , machinery , had a blast,at the end of tour they put out scones with jam and cream , tea and coffee, well worth the $28 adult price paid, welcoming people tour was underground

Such a great place, well worth the visit! We paid for a guided tour & we had Paul showing us around, he was so knowledgeable and told us some great stories. We had tea and scones given to us after the tour, which we had no idea about but was a great surprise. The shop had some beautiful pieces as well. Would highly recommend visiting on your trip to Coober Pedy!!

Awesome place to see all the history of coober pedy and the way they minned and the way they still do. Did the self guided tour and was worth it as they came down and showed us the working blower. Got to take our time as well.

Definitely the place to do a mine tour! The guide had decades experience with opal mining and have a great insight of life in Coober Pedy. They were extremely good with kids: they were all looking for opals while adults could listen to the guide. I’m the end of the tour, they “buy” the opals kids found and my girls loved tho sell their opals for lollies! They even have a great surprise in the end: fresh baked scones and barista coffee!!! This tour was rated by my kids the best thing of Coober Pedy.
