Mingara Gallery

My partner and I visited the Mingara gallery while in town for our anniversary holiday - some amazing paintings and pottery pieces, a friendly and knowledgeable curator that also has some lovely pieces of his own on display, and a bonus doggo to boot as a second curator

Often has great artwork and the cafe staff are nice, but over the years - and this one is no exception - the attitude of one gallery staff member to our children (now 12 and 15) is less than inviting.There are enough galleries on the island that you don't need to worry about this one, especially if you have children.

Do your homework on prices before buying here. We visited Mingara five weeks ago and I was interested in a Del Kathryn Barton framed limited edition print. The price was quoted as being About two. A bit more than two"

I parked on the nature strip to get a coffee and look through the gallery, and was then confronted with abuse from the Gallery owner/manager for doing so. Being born and breed Cowes locals, we are still left astonished about how we were treated and spoken to. Left my family quite rattled.

Great selection of art pieces. The gallery host is very friendly and accommodating.

After having a browse of the galleries website, we traveled down from Melbourne to purchase an artwork. However we were not greeted kindly at all. A woman, who we believe was the owner, gave us the death stare as we looked for a place to park. It was raining and the carpark was flooded with huge puddles, parking there would mean getting soaked in a massive puddle as you get out of your car. They really need to invest in some crushed rock so people can park like you would expect to in a civilised society. She kept staring at us in the most condescending manner. We decided to move along and call the gallery and explain that we wanted to make a purchase but were put off by the guard person staring us down as we looked for a place to park. Great art. Pricey

Shameful treatment of a young budding artist visiting Mingara. Noelle rude and dismissive.Could not name the curator- really??? Too busy to answer a couple of basic questions for VCE studio art. Nobody in the gallery beside ourselves on a Sunday. I would not buy any art here on principle. Some young enthusiastic staff would improve the situation greatly. Avoid this place in its current form.

Great little gallery. Only one of its kind on Philip island. This gallery has an excellent array of contemporary art covering a diverse range of styles. The owner, Noelle, is a passionate collector and an artist in her own right and a wealth of knowledge. Previous reviews criticising the gallery and Noelle seem to be focussed mainly on parking issues. It can be a dangerous corner if people park in strange places. You have to park in the car park provided. Then all is well and its all about Art. Noelle and Rod have always happily engaged with students, including my son and daughter and provide great insight into Art and the running of a gallery. They do this regularly especially with students from the local schools. It is great having this gallery on Philip island and always worth a visit as the artwork displayed changes regularly along with the permanent collection. Thank you.
