REVIEW FROM EMPLOYEE OF 7+ YEARS:So incredibly tired of seeing reviews degrading this family business I had the privilege of spending so many years being cared for by. This team is like no other: the quality, love, and attention that goes into the training, the food, the menu, the ambience, the music, the systems, the community and the service is unmatched.I have witnessed Shotgun/Frank's owner, Kelly, work 70+ hour weeks, for YEARS, through chronic pain, the crush of Covid19, staff shortages, and the horrific treatment by customers who have no problem speaking to service workers like we are less than human. All the while continuing to expand and grow the offering to now include nights (and take on never-ending-hours).A fast paced environment requires direct communication between staff, something I appreciated in my time there but customers seem to take out of context. Kelly has put her body in between myself and aggressive customers time & time again, had her hard work & dedication go unseen while human moments without context have been judged mercilessly. I have witnessed Kelly make & re-make orders of her own volition for horrible people to make sure they receive the quality they have paid for, leading by example by always being the hardest worker in the room and remaining the fairest boss I have ever worked under, going above & beyond so often her staff are HAPPY to do the same. The judgement of wait times, pricing & service comments left hand in hand with ironic acknowledgements of the huge demand on staff and management when the space is literally overflowing with customers and no awareness of how these things are consequential. As a customer, you are a guest in the beautiful home of Shotgun / Frank, invited to indulge in what is an incredible dining experience - if you let it. The wonderful regulars that frequent and make our days brighter have their orders memorised and rushed through, their presence & contribution is appreciated above all else. Before you leave a review complaining about the wait time (that you are notified of upon ordering) or the service (without context or empathy for what rush hours and staff shortages can do to people at the mercy of entitled people) or the pricing ($4 for an avocado that you don't know costs $7 cause you want 'at home staff not included' prices for your snotty kid) I want you to stop and take in the beautiful part of the world you are in, indulging in food & beverages some people will never get to experience and question whether you might be making a mountain out of a molehill. On your next visit, say Hi to Kelly. Tell her you read Susie's review. Be kind to our staff, who are trying so hard. Have the world's best eggs made by Rob the chef. If all else fails, ask Adrian for a good wine recommendation, hop down of your high horse & have a drink.Susie.

A lovely cafe to sit down in and enjoy some lovely food. We enjoyed the atmosphere inside the cafe. The look and feel of the place. Good selection of food off the menu and at the counter on display. Friendly staff. We tried their Rueben toasted which had corned beef, sauerkraut and pickle. Was yummo. Also ordered 2 lattes. It was the coffee that let it down for us. Just not up to standard, tasted burnt and bitter. We love our coffee! Wish Google had the 4.5 rating as would have given them this.Prompt service even though busy.Overall we would definitely go back for the food, and probably have a mocha instead.

Wow! Incredible food. Chicken broth was an absolute standout. Beautiful venue and funky friendly staff. Will make it a regular going through Maleny!

Just quietly sitting at the Shotgun cafe Maleny eating what I am now realising is one of my new all time favourite breakfast dishes. If you are in town order up “the green eggs” it is like springtime on a plate. Divine!!One of those dishes you don’t want to end.

As far as I can tell it's changed its name to Frank. Ambience is amazing. Staff are great but I think the owner was a bit cranky. Food is normally fantastic but today the mushroom dish had lost it's magic somehow. Photo is avo smash and porridge. Vego, vegans may be a little disappointed in the selection available. Otherwise it's impossible to fault and a real credit to everyone who pull together to make this place very special. Certainly a must visit if you are in town.

We often drive up to Frank for lunch. And always take home something for dinner. The food is exceptional and the staff are like a warm hug!

tl; dr: Interesting and delicious menu, but the coffee wasn't greatDropped in for lunch on a Saturday, completely forgetting that it was Father's Day weekend, and because of the border closures tourist areas like Maleny would be completely slammed. The queue to order and the wait for both food and coffee was long, but it was mostly worth it. At the very least, the menu was more interesting than the other cafes in the area. The chicken broth, especially, hit the spot for a cold-ish day. The warning for spice wasn't necessary in my opinion, but I guess for people who have very low tolerance for chilli it might still be too much. On the other hand, the coffee was completely undrinkable. Ok, that's an exaggeration, but while I'm unsure if this is a usual or if it's because they were particularly under the pump that day, it was certainly burnt and over extracted.I didn't notice any poor/rude behaviour by the management/owner day, so can't comment on that. Barring that, I would certainly return for the food, if not for the coffee.

Big portions of tasty, healthy food. Just the right amount of chilli for flavour, but not too much heat. I would've taken a photo of the food, but it was so good we finished it off before I thought to take a picture! Relaxing atmosphere, and looks like it'd be a great little bar at night too!

Service was fast and friendly. Food looked nice but my fritters were a bit dry and didn't have a lot of flavour, definitely a let down. The baguette was different but tasty. Great tea and coffee. There's also a Sunday surcharge.

I'm visiting from Melbourne for a couple of days and stopped into this town to have a browse and get a take away coffee. The person that served me was super nice and understood my order so I sat outside on one of the furthest tables amongst many empty ones. After waiting for 10 minutes, the manager, I believe, rudely asked me if I was waiting for a takeaway and if so that I need to wait on the bench that's even further away from the counter, and in a spot that's facing the sun. There were about 5 empty tables around me and I had ordered a coffee already so I thought this was quite rude and unnecessary. On top of this while I waited another couple of minutes in the sun, I heard that same manager talking so rudely to the other workers and I felt so bad for them. They were doing their best and as someone who has worked in hospitality, this kind of attitude towards workers and customers is what drives them away and makes the workers not want to work for you. You're not their mum or their owner, they're not dogs that you just order around. Treating others with respect is a common courtesy and there's no reason to talk to anyone like that. I suggest that as you're looking for new staff that you maybe need to treat your workers a bit nicer. Also I ordered my latte warm and ready to drink and it was boiling hot so it seems even you can't follow the same directions you were barking at your workers.
