So wrapt. Picked up my 12 year old IronHorse mountain bike from Brighton Cycles today and literally was like a new bike. I had a problem with slipping gears like forever, since new actually and each time I took my bike for a service with others in the local area and told them of my problem, it fell on deaf ears with one of them saying it needs a complete new gear system and wasn't worth doing etc etc...Brighton cycles for $154 , serviced and replaced some parts and gear selection is seamless, smooth and just made my old faithful bike a joy to ride. Honest, friendly and courteous service. Highly recommend.

There are many mixed reviews on Brighton Cycles which made me hesitant to bring my $6500 La Pierre Zesty mountain bike in for service. However all the shops near me were booked out for a few weeks and I was having issues with my gears, unable to change them and I was experiencing a lot of grinding. Athol assessed my issue and quoted me $150 for service and repair. He kept the bike overnight and I returned the next day for collection. Paid the $150 I was quoted and my bike now works perfectly and I've been going around on trails averaging 25-30km daily for the past month with no issues whatsoever! Waited to write this review as you never know with repairs until you've had a chance to really test your bike out.Super friendly guy and I will definitely be bringing my bike back here in the near future! Love supporting local businesses that CARE and building a relationship with my bike guy as opposed to bringing in to one of those superstores where your bike is always being worked on by a random mechanic. Shop is conveniently located with heaps of parking around the Brighton shops area.

Athol is very good. Excellent knowledge with an understated down to earth attitude. Bought 2 Bianchi road bikes a few years ago - one assembled by Athol and one by another store. The difference could not be more marked. Ended up taking the bike assembled elsewhere to Athol to correct!

Super knowledgeable couple of blokes managing the store. Athol, the manager, sported this in particular. Offering a myriad of advice in an old school, detailed and timely type of way. Kitted me and my partner out with a couple of bikes, which we’ve absolutely loved for the past year or so.

Expert help with choosing the right bike for my daughter. The quality of the bike I ended up buying was far superior than any of the bikes we tried at other shops for the same price. Will be going back again

I went to the shop for a derailleur gears so that I could fix the bike by myself. The shop keeper said the derailleur is only $30 and the replacement is $20. I thought that's a good deal and he insisted 'if I were you I'd leave the bike to be repaired...'. So, I left the bike, but when I came back to pay and pick up the bike, the price was $109!... I was shocked and did have a heated exchange of words with the shop owner! Not very impressed with the sudden change of price without letting me know in advance...

DO NOT GO TO THIS BIKE SHOP!I purchased a set of race wheels from this store after seeing them advertised online on Bike Exchange for $1450 which was reasonable compared to other stores around. When I arrived I was very surprised to see the messy state of the shop and the bicycle maintenance area. I didn’t turn away because I had made a long drive and knew the wheels would be worth it. They seemed very happy to take my money and soon I was off with my new wheels in hand. One week later I went to have the wheels fitted to my bike at my favourite local bike shop in Ringwood. This is the same shop I bought my current bike from and the staff there are extremely helpful and friendly. When they went to fit the new wheels they noticed rough running and that something was not right with the bearings in the front wheel. They explained to me what the issue was and showed me a comparison to the exact same wheelset that they had in on another bike. The difference was noticeable straight away between my front wheel from Brighton Cycles and the front wheel they had on the bike in their shop in Ringwood. I found this quite surprising for Zipp Wheels and the high quality that they are known for. It was obvious that there was a fault in the front wheel. So I phoned up Brighton Cycles to let them know I wanted to bring the wheels back in for them to have a look at and this was when all of the troubles started. I went back to Brighton with my brand new wheels that hadn’t even been on a bike yet. I was greeted with very poor customer service and after explaining to the very disinterested shop owner (Athol) what the issue was he gave the wheel a quick spin and immediately said nothing was wrong. I was very annoyed at this and wanted to discuss the issue further with him. After being ignored for 35 minutes while he chatted to his friends that came into the shop to talk about their latest overseas cycling adventure, he eventually found time to speak to me again. I explained to him more what my local bike shop in Ringwood had said, but he showed absolutely no interest. Upon asking if he wanted to speak to the mechanic at my local bike shop for clarification of the issue he replied “There’s no point, it’s just another mechanic.” As a hard working university student, $1450 was a lot of money for me and I didn’t want to spend it on a clearly faulty wheel. He kept shutting down everything I tried to tell him and his solution was for me to go and ride on them because the problem would fix itself. Yeah Right! At this point I just left the shop and went down and spoke to my local bike shop in Ringwood. They phoned Echelon Sports, who are the importers of Zipp Wheels in Australia and arranged, at no cost to me, for the wheels to be sent over to them and inspected.I got my wheels back two weeks ago and both of the bearings in my front wheel were replaced free of charge as they were faulty from the factory. This is what my local bike shop had been saying all along and it is obvious that Brighton Cycles had no interest in helping me at all.If there was an option for zero stars for this review I would have chosen that, but unfortunately there isn’t.Brighton Cycles – Five stars for taking your money, zero stars for customer service.STAY AWAY!!

Wonderfully helpful staff. I needed my neglected bike serviced and Athol basically did it in an hour after walking in with no appointment. He gave me a quick diagnosis (there were no surprises!) and fixed it all (and serviced the whole bike) at a very reasonable price. A very happy customer indeed!

Athol was very accommodating. Twice I arrived 5 minutes before closing to hire a bike. No problem, he took the time to set me up. Being from Canada it is very nice to get a few rides in February, where the temperature is hovering around -20c.
