Son of an Elk is one of the engine cylinders that power Barwon Hospital workers with caffeine everyday, but despite the reasonable coffee and pleasant interior, the unfriendly service has directed me elsewhere for my regular cup o'joe. Something about the name and logo also puts me off, it's somehow both unimaginative and try-hard. The muffin in this picture was described as 'fruity...not bad'.

Divine. This cafe has an amazing hipster aesthetic where modern and Victorian are in complete harmony. The rich and flavourful coffee blend is to die for. I was most impressed with my Bao Buns, you can immediately tell the time that has been put into this dish to make sure each element is complimentary, which is definitely something a lot of cafes struggle with. I very much look forward to visiting again 10/10

Great piccolo coffee being one of the best l have ever had. My wife said her very generous mug of hot chocolate was the best she's had in a long time. Food looked great too however we weren't hungry so didn't eat there however will next time we're passing

Son of an Elk was truly amazing to my wife and myself. Our son was in hospital, in a serious condition, my wife was ordering food when I had to call her back to the hospital as our son was had lapsed into an even more serious condition. The staff her said to her “don’t worry about a thing just go”. We returned some 3hrs later, and without missing a beat, they started to re-make her order of food and coffees, even slipped in a couple of sweat treats seeing we were having a shocker of a day. It was just a fantastic experience to feel so looked after in such a stressful time. Wonderful people.

Was checking reviews and after seeing the 4.6 rating decided to visit. Maybe I asked for the wrong thing but I just paid over $20 for a mushrooms cogee that I was explained it was like soup...nothing similar to that! it's kind of a porridge... I am sorry! But it's one of the most disgusting things I have ever tried in my life.... the coffee was way too bitter (I have it decaf) but even then it was way too strong... so in conclusion I left minus $20 and still very hungry. Not coming back

Popped in for a cuppa while waiting for my husband.. The earl Grey tea was good... stupidly ordered an escargot, the worst I've ever had, so dry I would swear it was days old.Convenient but I wouldn't recommend it.
