Goodbyes
*Edit: I took items in to consign after receiving an email from the store inviting people to consign & the stock they needed. To be told they were overstocked was then a waste of my time & they could have advised this with another email. Two stars as a consigner, three as a shopper. After a wardrobe clearout, I took about twenty items to consign (mostly high end designer and some Australia made vintage) and after waiting over half an hour, I was told none of the items were suitable. The reason being they already had 'too many dresses in stock' - I had three dresses in the selection of items so this was an illogical and bizarre excuse. And if a high level of stock was the issue, why waste everyone's time - I would have been happier to have been advised that upfront.Similar to other reviews, it seems consigning here comes down to the staff's individual preferences (and, as I have observed as a shopper, whether they know you personally).

Agree with some of the comments above, it seems to me that the staff take items randomly or based on their own taste.. you see some random staff in store, not in good condition at all, but said no to some good clothes/accessories…. Also not sure how they price the items and if or can staff buy directly after price it themselves? Again. I guess need more transparency and consistency, in terms of management

The business model provides me with joy and I am happy to support such an endeavour. The pricing is fair, and you can often pick up nice in-season clothing. The members of staff are always incredibly accommodating and personable. They are there to help you - and do not push you with sales tactics. A very comfortable shopping experience.

Great place to sell the clothes that you aren’t wearing anymore but which are a bit too special just to give away. The staff select items based on their quality and longevity and always take a range of styles and sizes which makes it a lovely place to shop as well.

Used to be one of my favourite shops in Hobart, as both a buyer and consigner. Now sadly not worth the effort. Staff seem to have developed an extremely narrow sense of fashion, which means as a buyer it's now pretty boring and the chances of finding anything good are remote, unless you are completely aligned with their taste. As a consigner (as noted by many others) due to their narrow taste and 5 garment rule it's pretty unlikely to have a successful consignment and therefore your time is wasted. Their judgement of condition is perplexing, as I've bought worn items from them, but also am told that less worn things I've bought in are not in good enough condition.** Edit. Thanks for taking the time to respond Goodbyes, and also credit to you for taking on board customer feedback with the change to the 5 garment rule. With respect to the style of clothes you choose, perhaps its a bit of a chicken and egg scenario. If you become known for having a wider range of garments a more diverse customer base might develop - although I appreciate you also want to pick items that sell quickly.

Have tried a few times with these guys - both as a consignor and a buyer over the past 12 months.Wonder why they have next to no male clothing? Because they reject EVERYTHING. The top reasons given are “it’s the wrong season for jackets” (June in Hobart), “it doesn’t fit the vibe”, “no one buys that anymore” (jeans) & “we have too many blazers currently” (they had 3).The hipster snobbery is also something to behold, especially when they reject pure fabric designer items that have been worn sparingly. If you want to be judged as a human and on your fashion taste by people who have the fashion depth of a puddle look no further! Core issue - total lack of diversity among the staff.Save time and just sell on a reputable platform.

Goodbyes was a very welcome addition to Hobart but its been disappointing to see that with continuous staff turnover (which is normal in a business, I understand!) that the quality of the experience, items and service have declined. As a customer, the collection used to be far more eclectic and suiting various styles - it has now become evident that the pieces in the store are based on the personal style of the shop attendants/manager. It is a shame. Also seems that quality is no longer a factor when they take on clothes which is disappointing, with items from cotton on, princess polly and other various fast fashion brands now regularly being in the store for purchase (for prices that seem extreme given the brand, fabric and overall quality/longevity of the item). It also seems that the store has become a 'popularity' contest with the attitudes of the staff drastically altering depending on the appearance of the customer. It seems depending on how i, or others, dress/appear with dictate the quality of our service. This is not an issue I encountered previously, and im unsure if there is new management or what, but the service has been disappointing and saddening. As for the consignment side, the process of cosigning at Goodbyes used to be significantly more pleasant. I completely understand that styles vary person to person, and items that one person may like wont always be enjoyed by others, but to be frank, the staff are just rude. The process is made unclear and if you do not understand it you are met with great condescension. It is also a shame when you bring in high quality, in season, dry cleaned pieces to have them turned away yet, as mentioned, low quality items are on the shelf. Goodbyes clearly need to implement a clearer process of the items they will take as the staff themself seem confused, one staff member will turn something away one day and then the next another will take it - this seems to be a recurring issue among Goodbyes reviews Australia wide. There’s so much potential to do better and to experiment with different styles of clothes again!! I love the concept of Goodbyes and I have previously had some very pleasant experience. These negative reviews (aus wide, not just tas) are room to improve and change! Take it on board, recurring things keep popping up - lack of transparency, cold staff, lack of sensitivity when sorting clothes etc. Its disappointing to be met with generic responses but no actual action.

there’s some nice stuff in there if you’re looking to buy, but if you’re trying to sell - it’s just not worth it. every time i have brought in nice pieces with brands and quality the same as that are being sold in store, and i always have my pieces turned away. i leave feeling humiliated, and the atmosphere in the store is just uncomfortable, the vibe from the store attendants is that i’m not stylish enough to join their cool little club. makes me feel like i’m in high school again (not in a good way).and by the reviews, it seems i’m not the only one who feels this way

Been there with my 20 clothing items; which were way too good than their overpriced and old items. They did not accept a single item of any of my items explaining their policy on wear and tear items; I have had few items never worn out of them But they feel ok to sell totally worn out item in $50. Wasted my time as I spent more than 30 minutes.Based on other reviews I could say that you have to be their acquaintance in order to sell your items.

To be honest they don’t make the experience of consigning clothes very friendly. I always feel ‘not cool enough’ from the shop keepers vibes. Also it does seem like the success of your consignment is hit or miss depending on their taste
