Basic hut to get away from the cold, bring your own kindling and a few pieces of wood and lighter for the pot belly... great 4wd with snow during this time of year, but check your forecaste, if you want snow, wait till it's at least falling below1,100...

Rocky road but very straightforward along Mt Terrible track, nice hut and great views, only about an hour or so from Jamieson so really accessible

Mt Terrible Hut
We visited on a warm sunny day, the view was incredible and the person in the fire watch tower was friendly and waved to us which was lovely. The track we took to get there definitely requires a 4 wheel drive with low range for the steep inclines and you needed good ground clearance for the washouts but overall, the track was well maintained and not too difficult.

One of my favourite places to 4x4. Great track up and then over the other side as you travel along the crest of the hills. Camped once on the top. Bring your own water and camera!

Great riding up Mt Terrible, there are some fun parts if you are keen or you can take the chicken runs around them!

Nice drive up, could do it in high range on a dry day but due to rain on the day low range was was go for us. No need for winching on the way up either.Awesome view from up top when there's no fog.

Not the best drive up the Newman's track if you're new to 4WDn. Certainly not suitable for 2Wd cars. In saying that it built my confidence with what my truck is capable of. (Mazda BT50)

Mt Terrible Hut
This hut is in excellent condition and I reckon is weather proof and may be even rat proof!! It's in such good condition out doesn't have as much character as some of the more run down huts you usually come across, however if you were caught walking in snow it would be a great refuge. Great views across the valley and more or less 2wd access given the immediate proximity to the telecom facility right next to it. Herald of parking and a picnic table

4wd access only. Very slippery when it's wet but great fun. You can take the easy track or go off the track and do some good slippery rutty inclines and declines that are pretty rocky and rutted out. We took the hard tracks and made it up fine with ATs.
