We had to say goodbye to our old Tom. I was so impressed with the beautiful young vet, who went out of her way to do all she could for us. You could see the compassion of this lovely young lady. The staff were amazing. At a time when everyone's off sick, they made room for us, so our boy wouldn't suffer. They also charged us $200 cheaper than other quotes I got from other vets. I was so Impressed with the attitude and care we were treated with at such a hard time. Everyone there that day were amazing and we can't thank them enough. 100% recommend Rutherford RSPCA. Would like to thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

We adopted a feisty little kitten 2 weeks ago. I'm a quadriplegic in a wheelchair. She'll be asleep on my lap then scarperingup the hallway at full speed! She's just what we need. Thanks again.

Just gotta say that the staff at the Rutherford vet hospital have been absolutely beautiful and so so helpful. My cat needed a routine hernia repair and I was quoted nearly 3k to have it fixed, I thank god for these guys because they were able to do his surgery for a lot less and have been more than helpful answering my questions and concerns as a worried fur mother. They are just beautiful and you can feel the love and care that they have for animals. This is the second time that they have helped me out of a really sticky situation and I will never have anything but positive words to say about my experiences with the Rspca . Thank god for these absolute angels.

Only gave five stars because that's as high as the ratings go.Having been looking for a new dog for many weeks and being constantly frustrated by local, privately run shelters we turned to the RSPCA in Sydney. All the RSPCAs are linked so after a few clicks we found ourselves looking at a wonderful two-year old Staffy x Something in Newcastle. We called the Hunter shelter a couple of times to discuss this dog's situation - the staff were very helpful on the phone and we got a good feeling from them.So we made the trip up the road with the family (including existing dog) in tow and on a Saturday morning found the shelter was well staffed by volunteers, clean, didn't smell, modern runs, everything was well maintained, all the volunteers were professional and competent.I saw the volunteers rotating dogs through different runs and interacting with them all the time. There is a vet on site and what looked like a veterinary hospital. There was plenty of space for the animals to run and plenty of areas to meet them away from other dogs. They also have cats at the shelter although I didn't see any as that's not what I was after.A volunteer spent at least an hour with us discussing the dog and watching the interaction between our current dog and (what would shortly become) our new one. There was no push to palm off the dog - they were genuinely interested in the dog's welfare but I suppose maintained an element of realism which was missing from our private-pound experiences. When we took the dog away several of the volunteers came and said goodbye to her which spoke to me about the volunteer's interest in the animals.I most certainly would recommend anyone looking for a new cat or dog checks out the RSPCA generally - and particularly the Hunter Shelter!

I recently adopted my cat Klause from here. The staff are amazing and big shout out to head office also David and the staff at Rutherford that assisted me today. Klause isn't well and had the cat flu, I knew this when I adopted him but it was mild. Unfortunately today it took a turn for the worse and being a public holiday nothing was open. So I called got head offices who called Rutherford who wasn't open today and organised a Vet to look at Klause. David was great on the phone and coming to pick up my cat at the gate and then bought him back about 15 min later with the Vet to talk about what the next option were with support and how I can assist at home. Thank you so much for opening up today when you were shut, the information you gave me, the meds and the support. I think I was more stressed than Klause. I can't speak highly of the staff, the genuine care and assisting me even when they were closed. Thank you so much for supporting me and Klause today!

This place is a savour during a medical emergency crisis, we had spent all our savings to save our cat from an unexpected eatern brown snake attack. If it weren't for the angels that work here, emily, dr tily, dr marnie & all vet care staff involved we would have lost our precious baby Ariel. Im forever grateful & now a donator for life to the RSPCA cause, rutherford rspca should be commended with an honour for the most caring professional & outstanding service at such a traumatic time for us. When you witness your pet completely paralysed & dying you become grateful for the kindness & empathy this team granted us. Ultimately they kept her alive to have her returned to us in perfect health. Miracle workers & angels! could not express my heartfelt gratitude enough for this amazing group of dedicated staff that go above & beyond in their exceptional level of care. Outstanding excellence

Went looking for a friend for our cat who gets lonely while we're at work. Weren't expecting to come home with a friend today, but the staff were super lovely and helpful, and we fell in love with a little kitten. The RSPCA really are the best option when you're looking to adopt a fur friend
