Lennards Track

As a novice 4wder, I was a little apprehensive having read the previous review. However, we negotiated the entire length in a stock Pajero with only one moment where the heart beat a little faster. The last steep section was taken at pace, but only as the track was dry. Wet conditions would be a different story. Some lovely views and riverside stops. It was disappointing to see some motorbikers camping on the track despite the comprehensive signage banning bikes and comping en route.

Great 4x4 track for off road enthusiasts of all levels, some very steep gradients, rutted climbs/descents and great views of the Preston River opposite Honeymoon Pools. Good place for basic level off-road adventuring during the drier months.Based in Wellington National Park this off road track is often closed during winter months due to dangerous track conditions, experienced off-roaders and seasoned thrill-seekers might find this track a bit too basic in the warmer months after the tracks are freshly graded but after some heavy rain this track can become treacherously exciting to drive. Your vehicle should be fitted with the primary off road features if you are driving this track in the wet, you should also possess a basic vehicle recovery kit. Do not attempt this track during rain if you do not have off road driving experience.Several rest stops along the way include drop toilets, tables and some even have river access stairs. Some of the great historical features of the track include an old collapsed bridge and an unused zip line, the river offers some beautiful little rapids and quite a few amazing swimming holes to stumble across.

We did this track last weekend with another Landcruiser, were going to take the short track but decided to keep going up the hill, pretty steep & rocky in places but no problem…we did come across a young “P” plater attempting it on his own though, in the first section he was stuck in a hole so we stopped & guided him out, he was pretty shaken. Later on when we got to the harder track we saw him coming back up from the river & he got in between us & the other car. We had to keep going because of the steep track & friends called on the radio to say that the young fella was slipping back towards them & then becoming sideways, they moved off the track to give him room & thankfully he was able to straighten up & headed back to the easy track. I wonder if at that section where the 12km track turns off it could be signed & noted that the next section is difficult. We do hope he got out of the track safe & sound.

Was very easy while dry did not need 4WD at all on highway pressures, some cool spots/swimming holes to stop along the way tho.
