Former Meeandah Railway Station
Meeandah railway station opened on 1st April 1897 and was temporary terminus until the line was completed to Pinkenba in September of 1897. Meeandah (supposedly named after river meanders or bends - but the river is hardly meandering near here) was at this time, the location of cattle holding yards for the Queensland Meat Export Company, which had a substantial abbatoir at Pinkenba. (The abbatoir closed in 1932 and a fertiliser plant opened on the site in 1939.) Meeandah became an unattended station in 1929 when the adjacent level crossing gates were removed, removing the need for the station mistress to open and close them. A loop siding was provided for the army in 1943; this became James Hardie & Co. siding post-war. Passenger traffic was never large and the station was closed with the cessation of Pinkenba passenger services on 27th September 1993. While this is the most accessible of the closed platforms on the Pinkenba line, being beside the Randle Road level crossing, accessing it could earn you a fine for trespassing on the rail corridor!
