Mount Franklin Reserve

Great area for a retreat. Lots of camp grounds. Not a lot of trails but plenty of things to do around.

This reserve is based in a crater and is surrounded by forest.You can walk a circular walk either from the car park area or from the opposite side, follow the signs.It's also a great free camp area although level spots are limited.Drop toilets were clean.New picnic area under build.Only 10 mins drive from Daylesford

Great cook over fire pits. Nice place to have a picnic. I wouldn't camp personally, not much to do without a waterway. A moderate effort walking tract, that was lovely with change landscape and a few spots with great views.

Great free camp in an extinct crater covered in pines and eucalypts.Quite enchanting when its quiet.Gets busy with Melbournians.Fires allowed. In fact the entire crater gets full of campfire smoke.Dogs allowed. In fact, there are so many dogs trying to figure out their boundaries that barking and the ocasional fight is a constant.

Great free camping area. Lots of shade from good sized trees around camp area. Nice easy 45min walk up to and around volcano rim (now extinct - which is good). Plenty of tables dotted around with great dog park in the middle. Added bonus of male and female toilets (drop toilets only) but no running water so bring your own.Also phone reception available most of the time. Well worth a visit

A lovely quiet spot to stop off and relax for a few days of free camping. Plenty of room for campers and the drop toilet was a nice bonus. The walk up and through the pine forest and around the top of the crater was worth it. Lots of lovely scenery along the way.

Always beautiful. Sometimes some louder groups over the weekend but lots of room. Clean drop toilets. Firepits. Currently renovations for a new shelter. Enjoyable 2km hike around the rim of the volcano. Feels lush surrounded by so many trees.

This place is magical. A stones throw away from Daylesford, but you totally feel like you have escaped. You are right in the midst of an old volcano. Where Mt Franklin water originally began.Free and dog friendly. Meet wonderful folk and share camp-fires with.It can be a hike to the loo. The old thunder box style and no showers. I have seen folk walking on by with toilet roll in hand. Could mean the toilet paper is not always available, but was when we were there. Best to have loo paper handy.Works best with a Portaloo. Can be dumped at the near by Daylesford Holiday Park.I have been here a few times and always glad to have stayed here. The dogs love it! We love it!By telling you about this, there is the chance we won't find space when we go there next, but sharing is caring.
