Love the gallery, the design and significance.A small highlight detail were the Giannuzzi benches in the beautiful space. We so wanted to get up those stairs too. The welcome from the wonderful volunteers made it even cooler.the restaurant Hearth is so special ~ staff, food and intention all exceptional.

Fab art gallery specialises in indigenous art works. Has both permanent works and temporary exhibitions. I recommend this gallery. The building is in a disused cow barn in which the architect kept a number of elements from the days when it was operating as a barn. There is a cafe in the building. Word of warning as this place is hard to find via GPS. The position on Google maps is incorrect.

The gallery is a beautiful modern building designed to house art and free to enter (donations welcomed at the door). They currently have three wonderful Namatjira watercolours alongside contemporary works by artists from central NT and prints by local artists.

Ngununggula is such a great space. We loved everything about the gallery. The staff were friendly, the buildings are fabulous, the little gallery shop is well stocked and the Cafe makes an excellent coffee.

This is a great spot for kids - the last time we went they had a separate room with a 'draw your self-portrait' activity with easels and colouring pencils, mirrors etc set up. Our group of kids absolutely loved that! Please do more kids activities like that! However, the exhibitions themselves (I've been twice now) have never been very interesting to me, all very abstract and with insufficient explanation which probably doesn't bother some people and of course art is very subjective anyway! But I wouldn't go for the art, just for the kids activities (and on a rainy day it's a big open indoor space to run around in) and the excellent cafe next door. We did feel a bit disapproval from the person sitting inside the gallery who clearly didn't appreciate the noise our kids were making - if you're going to allow people of all ages in, please understand that even when parents are asking their children to be quieter, they are going to find being in a large open space indoors very exciting, and they are going to explore the exhibits in their own ways (of course we stopped them from touching things). The lady on the front desk, however, was really welcoming. I would also suggest that including a piece of art that children can actually touch/play with would be a huge winner with families - we recently went to an exhibition at Bundanon which did this, including a piece of art that children could actually try on and wear as capes/dresses etc. It really engaged them and was so fun for us adults to see as well.

EXCELLENT place to spend a few hours in a relaxing environment catching up with a landmark property of our early agricultural heritage. Beautiful buildings, magnificent gardens, wonderful forests of old growth trees, great natural landscapes and not to forget one of the most stunning pool/cabana designs ever.... and one copied all over the planet. Excellent art gallery and a pleasant boutique restaurant with simple affordable meals

Beautiful gallery located within the Retford Park - with a beautiful restaurant on site (see “Hearth” on Google maps). One must enter the park in order to get to the gallery. The exhibits rotate with an upcoming exhibit anticipated working weeks. I visited July 2022. The gallery. The grounds. The gardens. An easy day trip fromSydney or make it a destination and stay in the area.Ngununggula, meaning “belonging” in the traditional language of the Gundungurra First Nations people, is the first regional art gallery in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, officially opening in September 2021. Note opening delayed until 12 October due to COVID.Our state-of-the-art facility is housed in a sustainably re-purposed Dairy structure located in Retford Park, the former residence of the late James Fairfax AC. Ngununggula offers rich encounters with artists and their ideas through an ambitious visual art and education program. From significant exhibitions, live events, artist-led workshops and talks, to school excursions and masterclasses, Ngununggula’s program aims to inspire curiosity, allowing visitors to have a deeper connection with artists, their practices and important matters of our time.
